Default 5.0 OS for 8330 or new blackberry theme

Please Login to Remove!

I got my dad a blackberry with no data plan ( he doesn't want to pay for data or change his plan ) and I have been hearing that there is a leaked version of 5.0 OS but can't seem to find it. I just want to know if it exists so I can keep looking for it. I think it might be only the new curve 8900.

Anyway the main reason I want to do this is because I have a tour and that theme is easier for him read. Is that theme available for install on the 8300 models? Thanks for you help.

I have heard of leaked versions of the OS but don't know where you could get it. However I'm sure Google is your friend on this.

As for the theme, what theme are you running? It might be possible to get a similar theme for your Dad's phone as well. Takes some searching around. If he has trouble reading certain things like text know that you can adjust the font style and size without having to change theme.

Options>Screen/keyboard

There is no OS 5.0 (that I know of) for the 8330. The latest one floating around is 4.5.0.169. There are tons of themes to change the look of your 8330.

The latest known OS for the 8330 is 5.0.0.191. As far as finding it, good luck. It hasn't been leaked AFAIK. I don't think any 5.0 build has been leaked for the 8330.

There is indeed a leaked 5.0 OS 'out there'. Check the usual places (especially Google).

I'm downloading it now. Not sure if I'm brave enough to install it.....

Downloaded it too. I will install it in the morning.

Ohh and the leaked version seems to be 5.0.0.230. Google is your friend.

I too am looking for that 8900 or 9630 theme. I have installed the new leaked 5.0 OS for my 8330. Maybe it can be ripped from a tour or 8900 curve install OS package?

What are the new features in 5.0 that would make it worthwhile? I know that 4.2 to 4.5 had significant improvements. What's in 5.0? Is the processor in the old Curve capable of running it? Thanks!

Yes it is. I am running it. You get bedside mode. A nicer looking UI. Threaded SMS. It is still a leaked beta, if your current OS is working, then there's no need to upgrade.

I'm happy with 4.5 (except for memory leaks). What is bedside mode?

It's a feature of the 5.0 clock (alarm) app. With bedside mode on, it lets you turn off the LED, the radio, dim the screen and/or change the active sound profile (any or all of those that you choose).

The purpose is so that you're not awakened by your phone beeping, buzzing or blinking if it is nearby you when you sleep.

Bedside mode is only on the newer Blackberry models, it's when you plug in the charger it goes directly to a clock that stays on until you unplug the charger or manually exit the mode yourself.

If anybody is interested in a theme for the Blackberry 83xx and 88xx, I spent a great deal of time bringing a theme over from the T-Mobile Gemini which looks just like the Tour. Email me at (eddie.ecklund@gmail.com) and I will send you the theme as an attachment

Default My take on 5.0

I installed 5.0.230 on my 8330 2 days ago. If I'd have known then what I know now, I wouldn't have done it for 2 main reasons:

1. It's a storage hog. With barely any apps installed, I'm down to 31 MB free storage.
2. The app that I use the most doesn't work with 5.0, Blackberry Enterprise Messenger for MOC 2007. I believe there's a 2.2 version of this app that works with 5.0, I just need to figure out how to download/install it.

I'm hoping that they trim down the final version of 5.0 for the 8330. As it is, there's not much storage left for 3rd party apps. If it were slimmer, it'd be real happy with it.

The threaded SMS is awesome. One thing I'd like to do, if anyone who's upgraded to 5 has figured out, is to prevent that darn alarm clock and keypad illumination from coming on when I'm charging it. I want the screen completely off and the key pad not illuminated when charging.

Go to Alarm > Options > When Charging = Do Nothing.

Yeah I am not brave enough yet either. Maybe this weekend I will read up on all of this still and get a feel for it all. I've done a lot of this kid of stuff with other devices, computers, other kinds of cell phones, mp3 players, but I don't want to screw up my phone.

I'm not familiar with new cell phone technology let alone blackberries so I'll wait for now.

Anyone know how to add multiple contacts to an SMS? This is the thing that bothers me the most about the threaded messages. Plus the fact that whenever I send someone an SMS, it's in BOLD before they even reply.. odd...

To SMS multiple people:

Go into your SMS or Messages folder, Press the Menu Key, Select Compose SMS
Type the name of who you want to SMS and press Enter.
Another To: Field will show, type the next contact's name.
Repeat as necessary.

It's a poor release, nothing but a lot of issues including lockups...don't ask me how I know...back to .285 now. Very cool features though!
