Why has Blackberry taken such a hit. I just recently upgraded from a Curve 8900 to a Bold 9900. Both devices are top noch, but the 9900 is great! I do not understand why RIM seems to be falling off the map. It would be a travisty if these devices fall by the way side. If you compare Blackberry to Android, there is no comparison, but I worry that Blackberry won't be around in another few years.

Sorry but RIM has been trailing market share globally for a few time. In fall 2010, iPhone worldwide sales beat BlackBerry, and in spring 2011 Android sales did the same. And now days the main competition is only between Apple & Android. And if you see the 1st quarter reports then you can analyze Samsung has reached on 3rd number position it means Blackberry has been out of competition. BlackBerry sales as a percentage of mobile sales are now in single digits worldwide. Recently RIM has decreased its price range for some of its model up to 26%..... This is really poor condition presented by them. RIM is not trying to be everything to everyone. RIM must think resources and power on building quality.

Actually, according to an article from the Guardian in the UK (Feb 21, 2012), both the Iphone and Blackberry are losing a small amount of market share to Android. *But* Blackberry is losing market share at a slower rate than the Iphone (-0.6% vs -0.7%).

Since Blackberry is between product cycles, it seems to me that they are not doing too bad. It's normal to lose a little bit of market share when there are no new products.

However, I think that Apple has some 'splaining to do! They have a fresher product line than Blackberry, but they are still losing market share faster.

Seems like Blackberry is hanging on Ok for now in the UK at least!

PS. Sorry - because I'm new I can't post the actual link.

When everyone runs to the latest and newest phone on the market the numbers will change. People today think they have to keep up. Soon the phone will be an embedded chip or something like google is suggesting. A pair of glasses that showes every move you make and instantly posts it on the internet and can make calls as well as display stuff.

Can you say privacy?
