Dumb question but..are the batteries used in the Blackberry 7100 compatible with the 8700g??

I want to say yes they are, and I am pretty sure that they are.. But I haven't tried it myself...

I think if you go to the blackberry.com website and look at a battery for a 8700 it says it works for a 7100 blackberry aswell

Nope. The 8700's use a C-S2, which are "locked". The 7100's use a C-S1 battery, which lack the "lock". However, you can use C-S2 to replace C-S1.

It basically means that the 8700's can only use the C-S2's even though the C-S1's are electrically and physically compatible.

I can tell you 100% without a doubt that yes, you can use an 8700 battery in a 7100 and vice versa.

I know this because Im currently doing this with my blackberry. My 8700r is using a 7100g battery.

I kinda think the battery might not last as long, but its really negligible at that point. Instead of 4 days uptime Im getting 3.5.

Yes, if the 7100 battery is a CS-2 battery - it will be blue instead of gray.

I've tried the CS-1 in my 8700 and it did not work.

Ditto here! The battery from my old 7100 does not work as I just tried it.

battery from 7100 CS-1 works perfect in 8700c. Note CS-2 battery is square vs CS-1 which is more round on the edges. CS-2 lasts much longer

Well now that's odd because my 8700g would not even turn on with the battery from my 7100t

I'm going to have to disagree.

The C-S1 battery will display a Battery icon with a slash through it. The new generation BB's are specifically designed to only work with the secure batteries.

Aditionally the C-S2 is only rated at 100mAh more than the C-S1... so "much longer" might be 5-10% IF in fact it worked... which it does not.

I think rcg is right. I just tried 2 different CS-1 batteries and when I put into the 8700g, I get a picture of a bttery with a slash through it..and then nothing happens. That sux. Looking at the 8700 battery (CS-2) it has a picture of a lock on it.

I use my girlfriend's 7130e's battery in my 8700 and vice versa frequently, but only as a last-resort-mine-is-dead option, I've never tried charging it. Pretty sure it's also a CS-2 however so it's a rather moot point ;)
