Default Speeding Up Web Browsing

Please Login to Remove!

I have heard about how you can speed up web browsing by changing certain settings or options, but I don't know what they are or what to change.

Honestly, the web browser is pretty horrible with default settings, even when using a good wi-fi connection. Or perhaps I am just expecting too much. I love my BB, but it's no iPhone, when it comes to browsing.

Any ideas on how to speed things up? 3G would be nice, but we all know that's not an option at present.

Wow -- 40 views and no responses ... looks like the browser is just crappy and slow as hell on this thing. I should have known. No 3G = weak browser.

Try getting Opera Mini. I've found it to be quicker than the BB browser (though this could be due to the fact that I'm still using OS 4.2). Additionally, with OM, if you put it up socket, it runs a lot faster than http. Battery might take a hit, but for me it's worth it because of the speed.

Cool, Opera Mini. I have heard good things about it. Thanks for the advice, Trimix!

Opera Mini uses proxies to make it appear faster, when in reality it might not actually be.

As for your browsing, keep in mind that you are on a handheld, not a more powerful PC. Many web sites are not optimized for mobile browsing either.

Speed is a function of processor, memory, connection, your distance to the tower and tower congestion, plus a few other things. The average speed is only 400-900 kbps, not the 1-7 mbps you might be used to on a PC connected to cable or DSL.

I'm not expecting it to be as fast as a PC, just faster than a molasses-covered snail.

The Bolt browser found here really works well for me: Bolt Browser.
