Question New forum member - Two questions on new Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, I'm new to the blackberry forums and have been doing a lot of reading/understanding about my new Blackberry 8700g that was given to me through work.

I have Cincinnati Bell Wireless, which is part of the AT&T network.

Anyway, I am hoping that I can add to the forum with what I've learned, and continue to learn more.

I have two initial questions:
(1) I'm trying to set it up as a tethered modem, and closely followed the instructions in the setup thread. For other CBW customers, you have to use "wap.gocbw.com" as the APN. I can get it to connect with no errors...everything looks fine, but when I open a web page it doesn't bring anything up. It acts like it doesn't see a DNS server...just says "Looking for google.com" down at the bottom the window.

(2) The second thing is that I set my yahoo account up to receive email messages about 3 hours ago. I've sent several test emails to the account and for some reason just isn't forwarding them. SOLVED (see post 6)

Anyone have any ideas on these issues?

Thanks in advance for any help! I look forward to contributing to the forums...

If this device was given to you by your company, they may have those features blocked by their IT policies. With it being purchased by your company, they like to have more control over things.

The second thing makes me wonder if your device has network coverage and properly provisioned by the carrier. Can you send emails from the blackberry? Do they arrive to the recipient?

My suggestion would be not to mess with the blackberry trying all things at once.

Make sure it works with your emails, you can send and receive, and only then try to change advanced settings for modem.

You should not have to wait for more than 15-20 minutes for email to arrive to blackberry after it came to your email account, and for Yahoo most providers have almost instant email delivery.

Thanks for the input...that could be true.

Wouldn't I not be able to connect at all if they blocked tethered modems? Several people in the tethered modem thread (at least 5 or so), that had them for personal use, had the same issue, but noone ever answered with a solution.

Hi, I can receive emails from my work email (we use Lotus Notes). I can send emails from my Blackberry to work accounts or to non-work email addresses. For instance, I can send email to my yahoo account from my BB, and it gets there fine.

All, question number 2 is now solved. I set up my gmail account to test it and it worked fine. So, I deleted the yahoo account setup and recreated it. That took care of it.
