Question Couple of problems upgrading to 4.5. Please help.

Ok, here's the deal.

I have an 8100 Pearl on AT&T, but I don't think that should matter for these particular questions.

I was running 4.2.1.96, and I tried to upgrade to the latest 4.5.

Everything appeared to go smoothly. The software backed everything up, installed the upgrade, and restored all my data. I disconnected, and checked out the BB. Everything appeared to have worked. I checked out some random data, everything appeared to be there.

However, the next day when I connected the BB to my computer to sync with Outlook 2002, it told me that nearly 200 of my contacts' info had changed. Nothing had changed except for a few calendar entries and maybe a task or two. Contacts should have been the same. So, I canceled out and didn't allow it to sync because I was concerned that all my contacts would get messed up.

Anybody know why this would happen? Any fixes?

Here's another issue ... don't know if it's in any way related ...

Prior to the upgrade, I had certain software installed that supposedly is not compatible with 4.5. Namely, Empower Mail Pro and SoftReset. Was I supposed to delete these programs prior to doing the upgrade? Because I assume the DM backed up these programs and then tried to put them back on after it upgraded to 4.5.

Could that be causing problems? Or, would it just not install those?

1. I wonder if those were birthdays? The BB OS handles some calendar items different.
Try the sync again and look to see what those conflicts are, you can look one by one to see.

2. It would likely re-install them. Go to options > Advanced > Applications and delete them, you can try to re-install fresh on the OS 4.5 device and "some" might work, others not. SoftREset is one that will NOT work on 4.5, for me.

I was thinking it might be birthdays/anniversaries, since 4.2.1.96 did not have fields for those on the BB. However, only about 40-50 of my contacts have that info. The rest don't. Yet, about 200 were about to be changed.

I could go one by one to see what's being changed, but going through all 200 would take a very long time ... and would not necessarily ensure that it would result in a problem-free sync. Since none of the date should have changed, but the DM thinks they have changed, then clearly *something* is going to be changed when I sync. I'm really nervous about what that *something* might be.

Maybe what I'll do is just backup the Outlook PST file before syncing just in case something goes wrong.

Should I just wipe the device and start from scratch?

I also noticed that in the upgrade to 4.5 (last year) that my 'all day' events got screwed, like off by an hour, for instance changing an all day event for one day to cover 1 am one day to 1 am the next, and covering then two days. that could be additional glitches you will find.

You could try wiping the calendar database ON the device, and letting Outlook sync back to it?

Thanks. I'll try that.

I also just noticed that I don't seem to have the option to turn on the native HTML e-mail. I suspect that having the DM try to install Empower onto 4.5 caused some problems. I may just have to scrap this install, wipe the device, and try again.

... and, since I was so caught up in the problems with the address book, I also just realized that Docs To Go is not on here. Isn't that supposed to be a part of 4.5.

Hmm, something went horribly wrong here.
