Default 9700 On OS6 vs. 9780

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone here have both devices to compare? For me, I'm running the 9700 on the first leaked OS6 and the only issue I have with it is that I cannot log on to my Bank of America app. Also, I have on average about 60 MB of application memory and as the day progresses it drops down to about 50, but a quick battery pull restores it back to 60 MB.

What are the other differences between the two aside from the 5.0 MP camera?

The most different thing between them is ram ! 9780 have 512 mb for ram . Because of this 9780 running faster more than 9700 , and the brower never crash because low memory like 9700.

I have both 9700 and 9780 next to me and its true that 9700 browser keeps closing itself because of cache being full after some of the rich sites. I have never been fan of BOA site because its just too cumbersome.
just like everyone else mentioned bigger memory and shinny camera are the only two diffs otherwise both devices run FINE with OS6

9700 on OS6 looks awesome but yes, it's true...perhaps the RAM is not well prepared to take full load of OS6. Often spinning icon is running and freeze your BB.

Especially on BB Messenger - It often freeze when you want to enlarge picture profile of your friends

What about battery life? Is it true that the 9780 drains more battery compared to the 9700?

I have BOTH. Its more than just RAM.
Battery life SEEMS to be improved on 9780 vs 9700 (BB5/BB6 - either on BES).
Speed is MUCH better than 9700+BB6; which is a waist if you have to pick & choose which apps stay/go due to minimal memory. I'm betting its more than just RAM/Memory being doubled here - I think the CPU has been revised.
I'll check to confirm on my wlan router but I THINK 9780 has 802.11N not just b/g.
Screen on 9780 vs 9700+BB6 is slightly better on contrast.

Mine is a Rogers 9780 and BBM notifications show in status bar but NOT in the selection of this bar nor in my Social Feeds?! I KNOW its enabled because if I select a new post I can post to BBM along with Twit but ONLY updates on status' show up in Social Feeds ... cannot find a setting.

I think battery life of 9780 is far better than 9700.

I have both - just got the 9780 yesterday. Will post up on that in the next few days. The 9780 is a bit faster...and has a good 280MB free with a few apps loaded and a clean install with 1000 contacts and only a few e-mails. Not sure it's really worth the $$$ to toss my 9700 and move to the 9780 though.

Thanks for the input, guys. So far I'm very satisifed with the 9700 running on the leaked OS6, and for now I'm wondering if it is worth dropping the extra $400-500 just to double the memory and get a 5.0 MP camera.

Camera takes awesome photos...but speeds are not much different from the 9700, unless you have tons of apps on it...which I don't and never will. IMO, unless you need the superior picture ability...it's not worth the huge chunk of change you're gonna have to layout to go to a 9780 from the 9700. OS6 on the 9700 runs well...and both seem to have issues anyway with certain built in RIM apps, like the application center not working etc...

My 9700 has 72 MB free whereas my 9780 has 284 MB free - both with the same apps loaded...and I was fine with the 72 MB free on the 9700. The 9780 is all black with no chrome...nice, but still not worth the $$$ difference.

Bootup time on both is about the same

There's no real perceptible difference in speed between either one AFAICS anyway...

Ha true man, but I am 100 % sure my battery holds much better on my 9780 now. I have TuneIn radio running all day on my 9700 and 9700 is only for regular use but 9700 is only surviving for about 2 hrs with streaming. but same stream on 9780 is about 4 good hrs because the colorful blinker comes on.

Can't see doing that at all. I would wait until you're current contract is up and then make the move if you still want to but for way less $$.

Agree with you. If you can handle the browser issue in 9700+OS6 where its cache keeps getting full then you are fine with 9700. I don't see much gain. I jumped to 9780 after paying 180 to bump up my contract so that's not a bad offer.

The constant low memory warnings after opening 3 web pages on the 9700 OS 6 is starting to get on my nerves.

I just upgraded from an T-Mobile 8900 a week ago that never had that issue.

The 3.2MP camera on the 9700 takes really good pictures as long as you keep the lens cover on the back clean and free of oils and grease fingerprints.

OS 6 runs perfect on the 9700 and the battery life is pretty good relative to all the previous BB I've owned before.

But I am still considering upgrading to the 9780 for the memory increase and for the improved rubberized/matte key pad.

I would expect the battery life on the 9780 to be slightly worse off than the 9700 if you use the camera a lot and upload pictures taken by the phone to a website...since it would require more power to take, store and process a 5 MP picture compared to a 3.2 MP picture.

I tend to take a lot of pictures but that is something I can live with.

If you can I would wait until later this year when RIM is rolling out a number of new models. The Bold Touch (whatever it will finally be called) has me interested.

I had a 9700 from when it first came out, and a 9780 since mid-December. They're almost like night and day in performance and battery life. The 9780 wins easily on both counts.
