Hi,

I am getting worried as I have a BlackBerry Pearl 8100 which I received from a friend of mine who upgraded to a newer phone, I needed a new phone and he gave me his. However when I put in my sim card I got the following message "Invalid Sim Card".

So I tried to reset the software following a long winded process and nothing changed. Then I went to two websites which charged me about $10 to unlock the phone for me by giving them the IEMI no. One told me that the unlock code could not be found and refunded me my money. The other did not and did not send me any code.

I am worried about other websites that ask for money to unlock the phone.

I read that I could call the original network and ask them but I would need my friend to do this as I am not on this network. But I was hoping to resolve this myself as he was kind enough to give me a free blackberry and I don't want to bug him about it.

What can I do, does anyone have any suggestions?

You should have used someone reputable for unlocking, like Horizon Wireless. If they can't find the code for your BlackBerry they refund the money. When you use these cheap-o sites you get what you pay for - crap service and scams. But then you know that now.

Have your friend ask for the code, or go to Horizon Wireless.
