Default 9800 - Should the trackpad light up?

Please Login to Remove!

This is specifically in regards to aesthetics. The only thing I've ever really thought looked odd was that in the ever present row of Call, BB, Trackpad, Back, and End, the only thing that doesn't illuminate is the trackpad. Why not, and how should it look?

Perhaps, a soft and even backlight with the same hue as if you shine a light into it now?

Moved to 9800 section.

Short answer. Yes. Mine does.

My track pad does NOT light up.

Don't think it ever did. Has a nice silver / chrome frame but no illumination of any kind on the track pad itself.

You have a 9800 and asked about the trackpad lighting up. Hence this goes in the 9800 section.

I have a soft light around the track pad. Could be light leaking from the other buttons however, or maybe the illusion of light.

My concern about the placing of the thread is due to the fact that all the current models, less the current Storm has a (the same?) trackpad. I just thought, in the dark, the phone looks spooky and... wrong. Blinking LED indicator. Backlit screen. Backlit keys. Backlit main buttons... Dark trackpad?

Not only does my trackpad not light up, neither do the other four buttons on the sides of it. The keypad lights up sharply when I slide the phone open, but all five top buttons stay dark. This is more than asthetics. In the dark, with the keypad closed, I can't hardly find the back button when I'm surfing the web, or figure out which way is up to press the answer button if I get a call.

Is there some setting I'm missing that would light 'em up?

Yeah. The trackpad does not light up. I too wish that it did. It was quite a change when I switched from my 9000 to the 9700. I was used to that brightly lit trackball. The 9700 has the unlit track pad. The 9800 still has that. I suspect there is a technological limitation to lighting the trackpad since supposedly it is an "optical" track pad. However, it would be cool if the outline lit up, for both cosmetic and functional reasons.

What about the other 4 buttons? Is there a setting to turn them off or on?

You put a hex on, didnt you, lol :P. Cause at the moment my four other buttons are not lit up at the moment!? I think it might therefore be something more automatic, as I don't see anything in Options to toggle -- will report back with any findings.

Well reboot solved that for me...I suppose after a battery-pull for you does not bring the light on for those 4 buttons? Hands up in the air, maybe you have a device in need of replacement under warranty?

That old reliable battery-pull. Seems to work for just about everything. Here I was thinking I'd have to go deal with ATT on a warranty issue.

I do miss the brightly lit trackball of old, but those other 4 buttons are puurrty all lit up.

The trackpads don't light up. I checked the 9800, 9700 and the 9100.

the track pad uses light to track your thumb/finger like a optical mouse.

it is not very bright at all.
