Default Loose Slider

Please Login to Remove!

I'm now getting annoyed by the looseness of my slider. It clacks when typing on the screen. At first, I thought I could just deal with it, but can't get beyond it.

For those that have returned because of this, did you get much pushback?

Just curious

Can try returning an exchanging. Shouldn't be a problem. But that seems to be an inherent issue with slider type phones. As is usually the case the first release of a new device generally is where problems are found and then corrected.

Yup...and Rim is notoriously known for having Build Quality issues! I'd say it'll be tightend up within the next 2 months...usual 60 day period until they work the kinks out...

RDEF: Did you try to return it? Did they give you a problem? When I purchased my Torch yesterday, the girl who was setting it up dropped it face first into the corner of the counter and it left a very small dent in the bezel so I swapped it out today, but now I've noticed the screen seems loose and wobbles when I type. It is VERY annoying, but still functions. Will they replace the phone?

I hate to be a big baby about it, but I just whipped out $530 for a device and I expect it to be what I want, no??

Other than that, how do you like the phone? How is your call quality?

Phone is ok, its not great, but its a pretty capable phone. As far as some people saying its the best berry out, I'd say yes with a grain of salt. 6.0 is good I'd say, but some kinks need to be worked out software wise. And as for hardware, after some use, this thing is a rattle box. Anyone who says it's not, and it's tight as a drum is most likely not telling the truth. Its a slider number one, so it's going to have give when u press on it. Only a high end device wouldn't, and this is not a high end device like the Epic, etc. Truth be told, RIM's build quality is garbage, for the exception of the Bold 9700. Hopefully, the Torch gets better with production. Because right now I'm not to happy with the build quality!

Anyone out there have a rock sold Torch with no movement at all? Wow, I remember not even a year ago, if you asked a question like this, you got an answer in a matter of minutes. Where have all the die hard crackberry addicts gone?

Yes, I returned mine. The rep was bending over backwards to help make me happy. Maybe when you spend 5k a year with the company, that's what happens...

The slider is still tight on the replacement with no rattle or clack whatsoever--much, much tighter than my original was on day one.

Thanks Guys...Time to pay at&t a visit to replace! I've owned sliders before, my nokia N95 never had any creaking or wiggle on the device, so I'd say poor materials is the reason. My sides of the keyboard creak as well on this Torch...

FWIW, I am seeing the same issue on my and my wife's 9800. The sales rep (contract store) said he has seen it on all of them. Well if it's loose enough for a non-user sales guy to notice, that's not good.

I plan to check out some corporate stores in a couple of weeks and will probably exchange. It really doesn't seem all that bad, but if there are better ones out there, why settle?

Mine was fine until last week when it finally developed the wiggle. Every single slider phone I have ever had has developed a wiggle at some point in its life. It all depends on how much pressure you put on the screen and how often you slide it. I don't think you can fix this as the sliding rail mechanism they are using is most likely plastic and it will wear. Not only that, my phone developed creaking along the left and right sides of the keyboard. There's creases there where part of the back casing wraps around the keyboard. That part also gets loose and starts creaking. The phone felt so cheap after the creaks started and the slider started wobbling that I returned it. I was going to ask for another due to the creaking but the store clerk said he's seen it on all the torches so far.

both of my kids have crappy LG slider phones, both of which are over a year old and have been SERIOUSLY used and abused. Neither has a loose slider. I think the idea that every slider will get lose is wrong, especially when you're talking about a phone that has been used since August 12, at the most. There is no reason to expect a slider should get lose after a few weeks' of use--none.

Rims Build quality has just become garbage...I just exchanged for a new Torch, and everything seems to be fine except for one MAJOR little problem..The Keyboard is completely sunk in..There is hardly any click at all, very annoying to type on a keyboard that is mushy with no click, it's something that can't be ignored. Going back to my Bold 9700, the search for a Torch that works the way it should is over. No patients at all for this!

I picked up a 9800 yesterday. The chassis is solid with no wiggle anywhere.

I read this thread before going in to buy it. I asked the ATT rep about complaints and he said he hasn't had any. Then again, he is an ATT rep

When I went in to return it for a refund, the woman (Manager) who by the way was really cool, asked me if I wanted to try another one before getting a refund? I said, sure whatever, I got nothing to loose, this was like my fourth one. She was laughing, and said that's why I'm waiting at least 2 months before picking it up. Anyway, I got one from the newest batch, and in the store it felt great, now a couple of days later, it has wiggle! Especially when its closed, you can feel it on the screen while gently tapping. Anyway, it is what it is. I'm probably going to just keep it for now, and if it gets really bad in time, I'll do a warrenty exchange!

In my opinion, every single time I have done a swap through warrenty, I've gotten a great solid device. I guess its because at&t tests them before going out to the people, which it looks like has been forgotten by RIM, quality control by RIM has been terrible, something they are lacking up there in Canada!

I've had it since launch day. There is some wiggle but I didn't even notice it until I read this thread. It doesn't bother me at all when I type. I use the slide keyboard exclusively, too, which means I'm sliding it open countless times per day.

I think the device feels like a tank. I say that having tried out my wife's iPhone 4, the EVO, the Samsung Captivate, etc. I'm not sure where all this anti-BB negativism is coming from. You can drop a BB 9800 from a height and be fine (I've already dropped my Torch from 5 feet). If you drop a iPhone 4, you'll get a cracked glass screen almost guaranteed. But you don't hear apple fans complaining night and day about shoddy apple construction.
