Allan, during the update, did you noticed the AppLoader message with the list of cod files being removed? If you did all the above, you would have seen that screen.

Otherwise, you simply didn't delete the correct, or any, cod files.

JSanders-- I definitely noticed an Apploader message relating to the medialoader files--- but oddly I think I remember it said "loading" files rather than "removing". I did just check the Java folder for the correct OS and I definitely did remove the files I indicated. Is it possible they're left over in the handheld from a prior install of an earlier OS?

ive removed the above listed files too, and all of the preloaded media is still on my phone. someone said there is a program that will help install the OS, and delete all of the programs that are unwanted, but i prefer to try myself. anyone know why they are still there?

I followed the same instructions by removing the mentioned files and running the app loader. Did notice that they were in the 'to be removed' category but they are still on my phone as well. By removing the 102 theme from ATT, I gained alot of file space. I've not tried the maxmem but if that does the trick please let me know.

Loading the new OS was a breeze and I'm using DM 4.7... the issue I'm having with I guess a few others is that we can't get rid of the samples. Following the provided instructions did not do it for me.

so...it's my turn to try this, because i want more file free....but some questions first:

i'm running v4.7.0.76 (9530), and i want to be sure that these files that i'll be moving out of the Java folder (and into a "Removed Modules" subfolder) are the files that reside in the "System" folder when exploring on the device...?
I assume this folder is stored on the 128 MB flash of the phone, and not the 1 GB section ?

1 - so far, i'd like to remove Pictures (on the phone: /system/samples/pictures/), so i will move these files to Removed Modules:

net_rim_bb_medialoader_360x480_t.cod
net_rim_bb_medialoader_backgrounds_360x480_t.cod

2 - then, i want to remove whats in /system/samples/music/, but my Java folder doesn't contain a net_rim...music.cod file....there is only one song in the folder on the phone, but it's 1MB (MusicDemo_WorldTraveller.m4a)

3 - i also want to remove the contents of the /system/samples/mms/ folder, which has /pictures/ and /tunes/ subfolders

4 - i want to remove voice activated dialing, would that be the following modules:
net_rim_vad.cod
net_rim_vad_resource.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__en.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__en_US.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__en_GB.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__de.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__de.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__fr.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__fr.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__fr_CA.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__it.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__it.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__es.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__es.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__es_MX.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__pt.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__pt_BR.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__pt_BR.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__hu.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__ca.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__cs.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__nl.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__nl.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__pl.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__pl.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__tr.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__ru.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__ru.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__zh_CN.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__zh_CN.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__zh_HK.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__ar.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__ja.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__he.cod

(see http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ee-memory.html thread)

so far, i think i have 1 down, i could use some advice on 2, 3 and 4, please.

those .cod files are in your PC Program Files>Common Files>Research in Motion>AppLoader
you remove the files you wnt from the java folder in apploader, and then use Desktop manager to "update device" and it will effectively remove them.

The program BBFileScout is a free file manager application that lets you deleted the sample files... If you just used the 'Explore' function from the media app, they're locked. Not with BBFileScout though. Deletes them without any issues. Quicker and easier than reloading your OS.

I removed all of the media files: video samples, pictures, etc.
I tried to send an MMS message and attach a picture. When I do, I get this menu with more pictures of cartoons. is there another .cod file that must be removed to rid this also?

I have the same problem and I have upgraded OS plenty of times before. I finally decide to go to 4.6.0.247. Instead of "removing" tt actually "loaded" bunch of stuff like the medialoader.cod, medialoader sonic stuff etc. And yes I deleted the .cod files to a backup folder. Vendor.xml was deleted. I used everything, Crackmem, MemMax, etc and they are still there. Any ideas?
