I am one of those using the old old blackberry (I think it's 7190) and now am faced with getting a new one. Trying to decide if the Pearl is something you'd buy again and if you can truly function well without the full traditional keyboard.

I prefer the Curve. If small phone like size is more your game, go with the Pearl.

The curve is the one I think I really want. I've had a separate cell phone and blackberry but want to combine them....I don't think I'm ready for the small screen and dual keys on the Pearl but the size looks nice.

Seriously though, the form factor is a winner in my book. I love the size, the SureType takes all of about a week to get used to (many here will tell you that they can type faster with suretype than a full qwerty, me included) and while the Curve is very nice (I'm trying to talk my fiancee into getting the pink one from Verizon) I'm a Pearl guy personally, and likely always will be.

the pearl is perfect for me it's small size doesn't bother my pockets and the keyboard works like it's suppose to for the most part

Same here. Took me a few tries to get used to the keyboard, but won't go back to a qwerty. The small size of the 8100 is just too good to pass up.

Amen to everyone's responses. Thumbs up to the small form factor. I got my first pearl (8100) when cingular rolled them out in December 2006. Noe I have an 8110.

Absolutely. Small form factor is the biggest advantage of the pearl and I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Though I wish now that I had gone up to the 8110. I'd kill for GPS. That's the only thing I want that my 8100 doesn't have.

First let me say that I haven't really used any of the QWERTY BB's, other than "messing" with them for a client. I've had an 8130 since about April and I think it is great. I'm usually emailing/browsing from it rather than bothering to get on a PC (Except for now). Suretype did take a little getting used to, but like everything else (I'm sure QWERTY kb's as well) once you get used to it, it's second nature.
So considering my experience with other Blackberry's, that's my opinion for what it's worth.

The 8130 was my first BB and I loved it dearly however I upgraded to the curve not giving up a whole lot of size really and the bigger screen is awesome for surfing much better then the pearls screen IMO...

my first BB was a 7290 then after a year upgraded to the 8100 had it for a little over a year and a half and there is only one application in which i miss the full keyboard (ssh client) other then that I can type faster and as accuratly as i could on the 7290. My only complaint is I end up trying to use it as a computer (have/use several apps at once) and it slows the phone down.

Just give Suretype a week and look at the screen after each word not when you type.

I must admit, when I first got the 8110 it was because my carrier had run out of its bigger brother.

On the plus side, the phones' physical size is a biggy for me and I spent the first week in awe of how much they had crammed into such a small device! I like a few others, had problems with the two letters per key (I have imperial hands and it must be a metric keypad ) but apart from that, this phone has everything you need.

The big negative for me is the problem I've just encountered mentioned in another post with the 'disappearing pins' in the charging socket.. I need reliability as my phone is my organizer, phone book, camera etc etc etc, so for that reason unless Blackberry hold up their hands and admit the fault, I don't think I'd have another.

My wife has the 8310.. I'd go for that..

I love my pearl(8100),it has surprised me with all it can do.I just upgraded to 4.5.055 and it does even more.It is truely in my eyes a flawless system and setup.

and my i add the prologitics has a 69.00 key chain gps that connects your 8100(and any other non-gps ) blackberry to full gps source. I have one and it works great(within 10 feet).

I have a Pearl right now. I was planning to upgrade to the Curve but I never did because of the cost and few other things.

The Pearl and the Curve is almost the same size. The Curve is tiny bit wider.

I actually will recommend getting the Curve over the Pearl.

My company issued me an ATT 7290 a few years back. I found a great deal on a Pearl 8100 when they first came out and swapped the SIM cards and never looked back! SureType takes a bit to get used to, but I like it.

Earlier this year, my company switched to Verizon and I replaced my 8100 with a brand new 8130. I now have OS 4.5 and I am still very happy with the Pearl.
