Good question. Sounds fishy. I hope for fr0zens sake, because I feel he's legit, this doesn't effect anything.

Yeah, in a case like this Ebay may actually contact the bidders and see if they're the sellers brother jacking up the price. It's pretty fishy to be over $4k with a week left to bid. Once they get you under their microscope you'd better be careful with "buddy bidding". Really ebay smart folks can probably get away with it but you'd better be smarter than they are or else you're all banned and the item will be taken down.

A lot of times on Ebay people think it is fun jacking up the price on an item and never pay for it. Some people make accounts just to do this on items they want but can't get or afford.

Looks like one bidder withdrew his bid due to "incorrect amount". The other was apparently cancelled when the bidder could not reach the seller. I still think it's one of those "not for sale, property or RIM" deals. Just a hunch.

To be honest, with these kind of sales, it's more likely that there are fraudulent bidders rather than buddy bidders or anything like that. Whenever I have listed a new or unreleased handset I have had all kinds of elevated fraudulent or pure vexatious bids by unsuitable bidders trying to derail the process or scammers from Eastern Europe, Indonesia and Nigeria who have been told they can't bid but will bid whatever as they have no intention of paying and so are only interested in forcing a sale to them or a relisting. I'd rather take less cash but more certain payment, than sacrifice payment certainty for a too good to be true offer.

If people are willing to part with that much cash for an unreleased handset that might get decommissioned and has no support or warranty (and I am often someone who gets test handsets), then that's their lookout, provided they know exactly what they're getting into (which they should - the auction's pretty clear). I say good luck to Fr0zen - I hope you get a good price for it!

There is another Javelin on eBay for $700 at the moment, which also looks genuine, but it's not at all clear that this isn't a "property of RIM" handset as there are no pictures of the back or any details. I strongly suspect this handset will get its PIN blocked by RIM.

4,550 with over 4 days left. That is crazy, I can't believe someone would pay that much for a phone.

some people will pay ANYTHING to be exclusive.

just look at the people who are paying 40-50k markups on their GTR.

it's an amazing car and i'd love to own one.. but 40-50k above MSRP? no thanks.

but again, there will always be people who are willing to pay.

plus this ebay auction has made it onto all the big tech blogs.. it's gotten a ridiculous amount of exposure, which only adds to the hype/desire factor.

to be honest i dont think the auction is going to end at 4G's, i expect many of the bidders to cancel bids. On top of that i will be in contact with the highest bidders in last 2 days. if i dont hear back i am going to simply cancel the bids.

by the way, does anyone want a video review of this?
any questions? anything you guys would like to see?
what sort of comparisons with the bold and curve?

For me it has to be the camera.

I'd love to see examples of the pics that it takes considering its resolution and auto-focus. Also what's the shutter speed like ?, the delay on my curve is huuuuuuuuge :(

I doubt that the video on it is much better than the Bold's though ?.

Just curious, how do you cancel a bid? And if they do contact you how do you decide if you'll keep their bid (feedback data or what?)
I'd like your opinion on the keyboard typing ease compared to Curve/Bold, and the screen compared to Bold. And camera of course.
