Cool camouflage 8700c

Please Login to Remove!

this was a 3 weeke project on and off, but I finally completed my camouflage berry. I hope you guys enjoy. give me some feedback. actually took me two weeks to paint and polish, to me another week to take pictures and post this.
i was tired of having the stadard blue silver, and didn't really want an oem black case either. just wanted to be different.

Why so harsh gmouth...IMHO, of course....

Some people tend to like the 'camo look'...I remember all of the flames on HoFo when Southern Linc released their camoflauge phone. It turned into an East/West Coast vs. the South......

As for drunknmunkie: Looks like you did a nice job on the custom paint job! While camo isn't my speed, I appreciate the effort you must've gone through. Looks like you spent some quality time on it!! Glad that you're excited about it!!

I agree, nice job. I like it. I'm also curious what kind of paint you used.

Nice! Camo's not what I'd choose either but it looks like a good job.

I also agree that it's a very nice job, and would also be curious as to the paints used. Great job!

just a brief story for my inspiration for the camouflage. I'm a guitar palyer and one of my heroes is Zakk Wylde. I purchased one of his signature series
guitars. here's a pic:
I painted my bb to match my guitar. just paying homage to one of the greatest rock guitarist I've ever heard.

as for the process of painting..first I sanded the original body so the paint would stick. Then I spray painted a couple of coats of flat khaki to lay down the base coat and primer it of sorts. I let that dry for a couple of days. then i went to my local hobby shop and got some brushes and a few different color tamiya model paints to finish the camo off. yes the color blotches are hand painted on..so it involved a lot of sanding and touch up to get the brush marks out..i then sealed it with a satin finish gloss coat spray paint from home depot. 2 coats and a little sanding inbetween. after that finished drying for a couple of days i then applied a "Best skins ever" to protect most of my finish. that's the gist of it.

I have a 7290 as my backup. I couldn't live a day without my bb

Wow, really neat!

I am actually about to paint my girlfriend's 7290, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this crazy idea.

I had thought about painting my 8700, but was worried that the clearance around the keys was so tight that the paint would make the keys stick. Have you had any problems with that?

Oh, and for any of the people wondering how to paint handheld devices, a really nice way to do it (though a little on the expensive side), is to sand the unit, cover it with Bulldog Adhesion Promoter, then use automotive urethane enamels, and finish off with a two part automotive urethane clear coat. Should give you a tough, really nice finish.

I've had no problems with any of the keys stickin. It actually made the keyboard a bit firmer. Doesn't feel like it movevs
