Default Can't Remove Yahoo Messenger Installer?

Please Login to Remove!

I guess this can be classified as a new form of software: PestWare.

I have an icon on my BB 8820 called Yahoo! Messenger. It's not the actual application, but instead launches the BB Browser to install Yahoo! Messenger. I don't want it but can't seem to get rid of it! It's not located in Options -> Advanced -> Applications but instead located in Options -> Advanced -> Service Books as 'Yahoo Client Download'. I have deleted this entry, restarted the BB - and boom! - it shows up again!

I have noticed that two other Service Book entries (BBFS2 [BBIMConfig] and BBFS2 [YHO]) also refer to Yahoo Messenger. I have tried to delete all three and yet when I reboot they all show up again.

Is there anyway to get rid of this 'app'? It seems that when I reboot the 'app' magically shows up (after a couple of seconds). Does any other app, upon startup, automatically install this?

Thanks for your help.

That installer icon is being pushed by your carrier. Much the same as those we have in the US from TMobile with the FaceBook icon and my 7-8 that AT&T pushes to my phone for shopping tunes, wallpaper, etc.

About the best you can do is to hide the icon... For me, I created a folder on my homescreen and named it "ATT TRASH". I placed the unwanted AT&T icons in it, and then hid the entire folder.

Oh, I didn't know that the carriers forced stuff down like that. Good idea about the folder - time for me to make my own 'Orange TRASH' folder.

Thank you very much for the info. It helped to preserve my sanity as it was driving me crazy.
