Default GroupWise and BES issues

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

I have several nagging issues that I am sure someone knows what is going on, but I can not figure it out.

A few weeks ago, we upgraded to BES 4.1.6 with some hotpatch or SP. In other words we are up to date. We also had the groupwise client 6.5 on the BES server. We upgraded to the 7.0.3 client, and changed the BES server to SOAP.

Things work, but we have issues.

1. Every email that comes across to the users looks like it has an attachment connected to it. Only about 20 words from each email come down until they say to bring more down. The attachment thing is annoying.

2. As soon as an appointment is entered it comes up as a reminder on the phone. The appointment could be for a few weeks from now, but it still shows up as a reminder immediately.

3. There seems to be no sync between the BB and GroupWise. If a user gets an email, opens and deletes it on the devices, the Groupwise client still shows the email as new and unopened. It is a manual process then to go back into the GroupWise client and delete or move the mail around. That is another thing. If someone saves an email to another folder, it really only moves on the blackberry and not in GroupWise.

4. New blackberry devices are unknown and not able to be managed. I think I fixed this by updating the devices.xml in the appdeploy folder. Not sure if I should have done this.

5. In the BES management server area. I got this MDS tab that keeps asking for a username and password. I don't even remember installing the MDS stuff but it is here. Not really sure what it does or if I need it. It was new with the 4.1.6 upgrade.

Any suggestions?

1) 4.1.6 MR 3 corrects an issue with HTML messages that are not properly formatted. The attachment you're seeing on all email is the stripped HTML. If the devices are 4.5 or higher, they will not get these attachments.

2) How are the appointments being entered? On GW or on the device?

3) Are all of your services running? Did you have this issue when you were running OAPI?

4) That should have corrected your issue.

5) That is basically used to push out in-house created applications.

What version did you upgrade from?

1. 4.1.6 mr3 is what we are on. As I look in the BES manager is say 4.1.6.16. The upgrade was from 4.1.3 with HF2.

All of our devices are BB 8330 brand new devices. But, this issue with the HTML thing happened also in our 8703 devices.

Two things happened at the same time. I upgraded BES to 4.1.6 with mr3, and also upgraded from GroupWise client 6.5.4 to 8.0. Thinking that it was an 8.0 problem, I back reved to 7.0.3. I didn't have the issue with 4.1.3 using GW 6.5.4.

2. Appointment are entered in the GroupWise client at the persons desk. A few seconds after they enter them, the phone buzzes and beeps with a reminder of that appointment.

3. Are all my services running? I think so. Everything that begins with Blackberry, all 11 services are running.

4. Great.

5. So, there is NO WAY that I am every going to build my own inhouse apps. Is there a way to get rid of the MDS stuff?

What OS's are the 8330's running? They could be running 4.3, that would explain why they are getting the issue. It will happen on the 8703 as there is no 4.5 OS for that device.

I am not too sure about the calendar issue. This could be related to SOAP. I do not have this issue and I am running the same versions you are, however, I am still running OAPI.

The 8330 are version 4.5.0.138.

The mail thing is most annoying. If I delete a message on my BB, I sure would want it to delete in the post office, and visa versa.

Yep, that fixed the sync issue. thanks.

Now, what about the attachment issue. Other than what you already proposed, any ideas?

Do you have HTML enabled on the BES and the handheld devices?

On the server:
1. In the BlackBerry Manager, in the left pane, click a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
2. On the Server Configuration tab, click Edit Properties.
3. Click Messaging.
4. In the Messaging Options section, make sure both "Rich Content Enabled" and "Inline Images Enabled" are set to True.

On the device:
Messages > Options > Email Settings.
Make sure Message Services is set to Desktop
Set both HTML email and Download Images Automatically to Yes.

Thanks. It wasn't as obvious on the server as I thought. I went through every setting and didn't see ANYTHING concerning enabling HTML.

Yes, everything is set to True. And on the client is configured correctly also.

Just to be straight. We are battling two issues right now.

1. Every email comes as if it has attachment, but there aren't any.
2. When we put an appointment into GroupWise client, the reminder comes up immediately on the blackberry device, and never again. So, if today I have an appointment that was set a month ago, the reminder never comes up. But it does come up on the GroupWise client.

Default Reminder time set to 57million minutes

As for issue 2, check the calender appointment on the BlackBerry and see what the reminder time is set as. Mine are appearing as 57 million minutes. This may be a bug. I'm still investigating.

We're running 7.0.3 HP2 on the Blackberry and the latest BES 4.1.6 fully patched.

We are running the Exact same setup as you, so I bet there is something.

Anything about the email attachment thing?

For the calendar issue, try uninstalling 7.0.3 hp2 and installing 7.0.3 hp1.

Default Drop to 7.0.3 HP1

It looks like 7.0.3 HP2 is not supported.

I dropped back to 7.0.3 HP1 GroupWise Client on the BES and it fixed my reminder minutes problem. Don't use 7.0.3 HP2.

Make sure to completely uninstall GW 7.0.3 HP2 on the BES and reboot. I also stopped all BES services when I removed HP2 and then installed HP1, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck!
