Default IT policy question

Please Login to Remove!

IT policy item: Allow other message services: False.

We are blocking BIS email via this way, my question is does this also block OWA style email, where the user sets up there OWA user name/PSWD and recieves email.

so will this option in the IT policy block the users ability to send email via this OWA email account?

Correct.

Set this rule to False to require that a BlackBerry device user send outgoing email messages through your organization's BlackBerry® Enterprise Server and to prevent a user from sending email messages using other email message services.

This rule does not prevent a user from receiving email messages on a BlackBerry device from other email message services.

This IT item will just prevent sending using non BES service but not to receive as hdawg said. To prevent them from receiving it on their device you'd need either to setup firewall policy to block incoming BIS msg( only 4.2 OS and higher) or call carrier and disable BIS on their end.
Allow other message services: False will NOT prevent users to setup BIS using OWA. In order to block that you'd need to block range of BIS IP addresses on your firewall/IIS not to accept connections from these IP addresses. See RIM's KB has these ranges listed.

Just add IT policy to no third application allow to install and no IM. BIS leave it alone and keep staff some flexibility (only if your company IT regulation is OK). Otherwise, lock down everything. Make sure they have a pwd to lock BB, too. I got few staff that lose BB, but no pwd. So, I have to send in purge request ASAP.

Remember to educate your user, too.
