I am possibly selling this phone and would like to know how to get the IT policy off of it. Would a hard reset (i have os 4.0) do it?

Have the BES put send you a "default" policy with no rules. I don't even think reloading the OS gets rid of it.

Just tried reloading the OS and that doesn't seem to do it.

I'm in a similar boat. I used my personal 7100v for some temporary testing and now am stuck with an IT Policy (funny thing is I set it to a Null policy which worked, but suddenly it won't allow the split pipes anymore even though the policy never changed!).

It seems odd (or wrong) that one could not restore the unit to a factory state.

Anyone ever have success with this?

we've done that with a few devices. Just load up a blank policy and the device has worked like it was brand new.

You need to load up a new policy, and then you can reload the default policy again. It's a pain, but doesn't take long and is the only way to do it.

Can someone send me a "default" policy with no rules? I should hopefully be able to use the Desktop software to load this into my Blackberry. Unfortunately, my unit is stuck with someone's corporate policy (I bought it used) and I don't have access to BES software to remove it. I'd be grateful for anyone's help on this.

I have similar problem having old Blackberry device - I can not load any software because of old security policy and without access to BES server. I have also wiped the handheld, but without success. If someone could help me (possibly with sending blank security policy), it will be much appriciated.

Hi, I have a similar issue. I used my personal 7100T at work (Citigroup), the corporate IT policy was pushed and I now am no longer with Citigroup. I reflashed the BB and the policy still exists (I am told it is resident in ROM). I have since discontiuned the Enterprise BES service. I want to get rid of this policy and would liike to see what options I have?

Do I need to have the Citigroup BES send me a "blank or default" Policy?

SInce I don't have Enterprise service, can a policy even be pushed to me?

What are other options? Can a policy be manualy be pushed via the desktop manager?

Issue-5: If the handheld already has an IT policy applied from another BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the handheld rejects the new IT policy and wireless activation does not complete. This can happen if the handheld was previously activated on another BlackBerry Enterprise Server that does not share the same database as the current BlackBerry Enterprise Server on which you are trying to activate the handheld.

Workaround: (1) Disable the handheld and perform a Security Wipe through the following steps, Options-Security- Wipe Handheld; (2). Generate and send the user a new activation password; (3) Enterprise Activate the device

Thankfully I found someone on BBF willing to add me to his BES, push a new policy, and remove me again. NOTHING you do locally will wipe the policy so RIM certainly does seem to have done a good job...

Spoke to RIM today and they will only change this ridiculous feature if users generate enough steam!

they most likely have a utility that will remove it. however, from a corporate safety perspective, i think its a good idea to have it in place. i'm sure their corporate BES customers (the ones they make money from) are not complaining one bit about such a utility existing in the open arena.

I am not sure that most of RIMs Corporate or Government customers would find this feature "ridiculous". There is a utility RIM has to wipe the policy, it's called something like "IT Admin Tool". It will wipe the policy info (as well as all your data, so you need to backup first). You will need to get it from T-support, although i am not sure if they are going to be very forthcomming giving it out.

I highly doubt you'll find those files. And I seriously doubt if such a utility exists, it will ever make it out into the public. This would totally blow RIM's security model out the water. As it is now, if a device is lost, I can lock it and secure the thing from my blackberry if need be with 3rd party software. Now picture this....

You work in a highly secure environment, top secret clearances and all that. You have a blackberry for offsite usage, with a hefty security policy to prevent anyone from accessing data on your device should it be lost/stolen/whatever.

Now ITPolicy.exe is made public.

Now any Joe Blow that finds your blackberry can blow the policy away and view anything and everything on it. If you happen to have custom apps on there that access internal databases, whether they contain national security info, credit card info or just a database of email addresses.

That is why the IT Admin Tool that wipes the policy data, also wipes all the user data (and service books) from the device. Call T-Support and ask for "ITPolicy-English-DateTimeStamp_Hotfix.exe", this includes an ITAdmin.alx and .cod that you load on the device and run.

Yes...but it leaves OS and applications intact.

This is exactly what I am looking for. I am on the phone with T-Support now and not sure if they are going to give this out but I just want my handheld, that I paid for back under my control, not associated with the BES.
