Is there an IT policy that I can enable to force all of my handhelds to use my companies proxy server to access the internet? I've been poking around in all of the policies and have yet to see one that allows me to specify a proxy server.
yes, under BlackBerry MDS Connection Service, go to proxy, highlight http://.*, you can then enter the Proxy String that the Browser must use to access the proxy server (usually prompts the user for credentials as well).

Unfortunately after setting up the proxy settings I am unable to use the browser. I must be doing something wrong but even after I disabled the proxy again I cannot get out using the browser any longer.

Are they able to browse intranet sites? If so, then this sounds like the problem I'm having. Users can browse intranet sites, but get a 400 bad request when trying to access outside sites.

They are unable to browse either actually. We actually use ISA and not proxy. Will BES work with ISA?
I created a rule in ISA to allow the BES access to the all external networks.
Yes, it works fine with ISA (I have the same setup). Just create a rule to permit MDS services from yoru BES server to all external.
Will allowing all traffic from the BES server to External work the same way? If so how do I set it up to allow MDS services. I dont' see that option as an allowed protocol.
My BES server and my MDS server are one in the same.
I've had this problem before and managed to solve it. We use an ISA server here, and I specified a rule to allow all outgoing traffic from the BES server. This is restricted by a Blackberry users group which must contain your BES account in it otherwise you will get the 400 error.
Also, make sure your MDS proxy setting look something like:

The PROXY in the proxy string must be in CAPS. I tried it in lower case and it didn't work.
Sorry if you have already tried this, but this is the solution that worked for me.
Yeah I figured it out after some poking around. I have seperate account from my BES account that I use for proxy authentication. I think it would be safer this way. It works so far so I'm going with it.
Can you tell us in steps what you did. I have the same issue and proxy for Blackberry seems to be a big black hole of no answers from RIM's tech support. My users have to use there MDS browser for internal sites and then they have to use the Internet browser if they want to get outside of our intranet. It would be nice if they all could just use one browser that did internal and external then hyperlinks would work in emails if they were internal or external. So I am still confused on how our ISA server should be configured and what rules I need in place to be safe for this to work correctly
