hi guys - I just got a blackberry for personal use... Iam a college student and this device is amazing as far as taking notes and staying connected. Just wanted to see if there was anyone else out there using it for school... I had a treo 650 at one point but have decided the blackberry is what I've been looking for... am i crazy for paying up the wazoo for blackberry service being that i'm just a college student? I know blackberries are geared towards business users... but my blackberry is just awsome! thoughts/comments welcome...

what blackberry and service provider do you have

tmobile i am paying 45 for my minutes and 14.99 for unlimited blackberry plan nextel is worst

nextel unlimited is 45

but yeah give us more info about your provider and which bb you have

I'm also a college student using a BB (7750). I however do not have a data plan. I use it for the calender, tasks, memos, and fast SMS. I wish I had the data plan but as it is right now I'm on a family share plan which is around $60 a month plus another $40-$50 for data. Theres no way I'm paying that much. Sucks, but oh well.

I have the 7250 from Sprint... the service is about $44.50/month for unlimited email/web plus the voice plan ($10/family share). I did have the new tmobile 7105; it was great but service on campus was horrible... and i didnt like the keyboard on it.

I am a college student and I use my BB for work and school. My job requires me to constantly communicate via email. There are also four other students I work with that bought BlackBerries too for the same reasons. The price is a little expensive for a college student, but we all find it worth it to stay connected.

I just added it all up. Family share plan with my parents on Samsung a670s and me on a BB 7750 is about $95 a month. Add another $50 for unlimited data and thats $145 to have full capability on my BB. *Sigh* No data plan for me at that price.

i am a student too, but the way that i use my blackberr is for school, daily inforamtion and email that i use with my ebay account. I know ppl like the fast replies to their questions. The money i make off ebay pays for my monthly phone fee's.

My suggetion is to get the WAP and an unlimited SMS. You can then use my-number@carrier for email and have some (WAP) data access. But now that I think of it you won't save that much.

I'm only a part-time student, but I work full time. Work picks up the tab on my BB. Unlimited data and might-as-well-be unlimited voice, since I use all the minutes I want and no one cares.

Nextel and a BB 7510.

I'm a college student with a Verizon phone for voice = $49.99

T-Mobile for unlimited BB plan = $29.99

But I'm also a business owner so $80/month isn't bad at all to stay in touch with everyone personally and professionally.

ok well as for me i am a full time college student and a full time worker....

i recentyl dropped nextel and was paying

69.99 for nextel national 600 free incoming
44.99 for unlimited bb plan
total 114.98 plus taxes

work paid off for it

now i have tmobile

45.99 for voice plan
14.99 unlimited text messages
19.99 unlimited bb plan
total 80.97

and have yet to have a problem with tmobile

im personally a highschool student but still use blackberry it helps pass the spare time i have in this public school system (which amounts up to more than any amount we should have) but yea i pay up the a** for service around 45 for mins. and 50 for unlimited data but i love the blackberry

I will be going back to school soon, my company bought my BlackBerry and since I never see the bill, they pay it for me every month. My job requires email support with a help desk. I love my 7250 with Verizon. So add that all up and correct me if my math is a little off, but I pay $0.00 / month : )

Dude I think you might have been getting RIPPED! I have the National 1500 with unlimited everything, and pay $51 and have BB unlimited for $44.99 and have Telenav unimited for $9 which is a total of $104.99, plus I get a 10% discount....then again I have had that plan for ever and a day and my rate won't change....

These devices were not around when I was in college, as Nextel had not released them, and T-Mobile was servicing my area. They moved into my market at the same time that they finalized the buyout by D-T and changed their namee from VStream to T-Mobile. Bear in mind though, I am only 22, and could still be in college, so this thread applies to me.

I first got into data devices with a Sidekick CS about a year ago. Got rid of it due to size, then about six months later, got an SK II, switched from T-Mo to Cingular, got a BB 7290 for voice and SMS about 3 months ago, then just switched back to T-Mobile with a 7105t. I have $45 for voice, and $20 for unlimited data, BIS BB, SMS, and IM.

I left school after a year and a half to take a break, got a job in IT, went back to school for another semester, then got a new job which has me on the road all the time, and I have been with them for a year and a half. My BB downloads my mail from my company's OWA server, as well as Comcast web mail.

T-Mobile has the best BIS implementation in my opinion, and is fairly comparable to at least the e-mail portion of BES as mail sent from my BB shows up in Outlook when I get back to the hotel.

thats the thing right there my best friend had that plan and i was always envious those are plans before nextel changed their stuff around before the merger as well they change their prices and plans alot so in a matter compared to older plans that people still have yeah i was getting ripped but oh well but whoever signed up after me or with me had the same plan so it wasnt only me........other than i loved nextel til they merged...

oh well i love my 7105t and now i use that as a modem when i am on the road so i cant complain...

Seeing the fares you pay i think i'm lucky (at least for the BB service).
I'm paying 25€ per month for BB e-mail and unlimited GPRS web traffic with Vodafone.

I am a college student without the data plan right now, but for some reason it works and I only get charged for the amount of data that I use. Last month I got charged 5.75 for what I used. I have a 7100t on TMobile on the 69.99 family plan and that's it.

Are you sure that you are sending actual emails containing a "@blackberry.net" email address? Or just SMS text messages?
