I'm using the Rove file manager for this purpose and it works fine. It's just basic editing but it gets the job done.

Thanks but no thanks. With it's 50kb limit and simple features this isn't what I am looking for. I search for something like CardTXT which I had on my Palm Treo.

I have to agree, CardTXT is the best text editor for the Palm. Its kept me glued to my Tapwave Zodiac for a long time.

I think Rove is a solution, you can download a TXT file splitter to make your txt files smaller.

How big are the text files you want to open? It would help us ensure that the improvements we do meet your needs.

We are working on supporting bigger file sizes, but certain considerations need to be taken, as the BlackBerry has a very small amount of physical memory.

Personally, I'd like to see a standalone editor, rather than one bundled into a file manager. I'd like to see a level of functionality comparable to the many text editors that were available for MSDOS: maybe a 256 kb file limit, or even 128 kb; search and replace; save as; etc.

Rove file manager helps in a pinch, but it's far from ideal. It takes too long to load. I've hidden it in a folder of apps I use infrequently and keep it for FTP only. About the file manager, I've come to realize that I don't really use it. I only need to manage files and folders, if ever, when the phone is attached to the desktop. Then I just use the desktop's file manager.

A good text editor has to launch quickly. I am now using iSilo to store and read all my text files. It won't edit text, but it's great for quick reference. And iSilo converts HTML pages too.

Maybe what you are looking for is a full featured editor, check out this product, a lite version is included in the latest BlackBerry OS:

I did have Documents To Go on my Palm Treo but never liked it. I don't need an word editor, just a simple plaintext editor (like nano, vi, emacs etc.)

What about on-disk editing? I know there are some desktop editors out there that can do this, rather than load into memory - is something like that possible with the APIs you developers are given in the BB/J2ME world?
