Red face Newbie question - Treo 650 to Bold sync

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

Glad to be on board. Have a question that I've searched for hours to find the answer to. As noted, my previous PDA was a Treo 650. I have thousands of calendar events and contacts I need to transfer to my new BB Bold. I followed the advice from another post.

Searching for a solution, I found a thread on another forum on the web that read the following:

>After some hours of fiddling, I found a go around to make this work.
>Browsing through many of the threads on this topic, I couldn't get any
> of the advice to work, but this does . . .

> 3. Go to Palm.com and download version 4.0.1 and install it.
> 4. Import the csv files into your new Palm Desktop program (version 4.0.1)
> 5. Now, do the Swith Device Wizard through the Blackberry Desktop
> Manager.
> DONE!
> Hope this saves some other poor soul a few hours of frustration."

The process worked perfectly.... until I doublechecked my Bold to make sure everything was transfered properly. Though all my contacts were transfered properly, only the calendar dates from today on transfered. All the dates from before today (1000s of entries) are not there. Am I doing something wrong? I've double checked the Treo 650, and made sure that everything was synced to Palm Desktop before doing the switch.

Thanks to anyone who helps!

I expect to have precisely the same problem very shortly (Treo 650 > Bold). Thing is, my Palm Desktop is already 4.1.4, does that mean it will work OK??

Well hopefully you don't have this same problem. Because I've been lugging my Treo AND Bold around wherever I go because I constantly need to go back in time and look at past events. To answer your question, I believe it should work. I mean this what the switch device wizard was created for.

I'm planning to get a Bold to use very much as I've used my Treo, ie main uses Calendar, Internet, Phone, occasional email (mainly because I've finally given up on the dreadful phone reception on my Treo and can't think the Treo Pro will be any better).

How usable do you find the calendar after the Treo?

I also wonder whether, as I only need internet and can pick up emails via webmail if need be, whether I need pay Vodafone the extra £5pm for the 'Blackberry email', which seems to be priced separately on top of unlimited internet. Push email is of little interest to me.

As far as I know, calendar events will only get tranferred from today forward on purpose. On most occasions, people only want to know where they are going and when. They don't necessarily want old data. You may want to try setting the Bold time back a year and then importing your calendar. You may also need to set your PC date back. Effectively, you are tricking the software into thinking it was a year ago so you get an extra year of calendar data. I have not tried this so I don't know if it will work but it's worth a shot.

A trick I read this morning was to synch your Treo to Outlook, then synch Outlook to your Bold. Sounds good in theory (I think they said you needed to reload Desktop from the CD and select 'synch to Outlook' at that point).

Vodafone's customer service tell me the answer to that one is that no, I wouldn't have to have the BlackBerry email but then I wouldn't be able to use the GPS as they are part of the same system in some unspecified way.

OK, the first part seems to have worked OK.

You put the CD in, it recognises that you have Desktop already installed and you get the opportunity from the homepage to change the method of sync to Outlook, which I did.

So I assume it will now all sync nicely with my Bold when it comes......

Any luck?
