Default Question on BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Folks,

I recently purchased the Blackberry Bold. I work for a multi national and we use BES. I have set up the bold to auto conect to my home network when in range.
Interesting thing happened, on Friday there was a screw up at my provider (Optus in Australia) and they disabled all data services to my Blackberry account. So I had no email, browser, maps e.t.c.

However, as soon as I got home and synched into my home network my emails started flooding through? Should this occur? Seems like a security hole to me....

It depends on what the "screw up" was.

Not a security hole at all !

Optus stuffed up your Bllackberry's ability to talk to the data network, that's all. The moment you got home, it could happily use your WIFI to connect to the data network, so it was happy.

Your account was still active with RIM, it was just Optus stuffing your 3G/GPRS data connection that caused the issue.

Rgds

Thanks for that, I just presumed Optus had something to do with the facilitation of the Blackberry service. Obviously they are just a conduit.... I was just confused by the whole cell tower coverage as opposed to pure IP.

Next question, when I am at home and connected to my network presuming my Optus data service is re-enabled will it by default do email through wi-fi or Optus connection. When I use my browser it is doing data by wi-fi as I can see my modem/router ticking over.
