I currently use the 8900 and am happy with it except that my thumbs are large and frequently mis-type. Does the 9700 have the kind of keyboard that will accomodate larger fingers? Anyone have first-hand experience?

seems quite similar to the 8900 - keys are not as spaced out as the curve 8310

I'll add: I like the 8900's keyboard well enough, hate the Tour's keyboard -- way too mushy.

For those of you who've used both the Tour and the 9700: Is the 9700's more clicky and positive, or is it like typing on a bunch of plastic islands floating on a sea of oatmeal?

Used the 8900 for about 2 years, and replaced with a Bold about 6 months ago.

Find the Bold much easier to use, keys seem bigger and more spaced, and easier to read. Generally seems a much better quality device.

Look after a fleet of 100+ devices, and 10% of the 8900's have been returned under warranty in 6 months, but none of the Bolds.

the 8900 hasn't even been out for 2 years..

I'm still not used to the 9700 keyboard after 6 weeks with it.. I prefer the keyboard on my old 8900 and even 8300

What are the pros and cons ofthe 9700 keyboard compareto your 8900 and 8300?

Apologies, have had 8700 2 years, but it's virtually identical keyboard to 8900, so observations still stand.

The 9700 is nothing like the 8900 keyboard even though they are a similar size. The Curve line has sizable spaces between the keys where each key is more like an individual button. The 9700 keyboard is exactly the same as the 9000 Bold keyboard except it's slightly smaller. Keys on the Bold line have slight spaces between the keys. To give you an analogy, the 9700 keyboard is more like a laptop keyboard as compared to the 8900 which is more like a desktop keyboard (but obviously flatter).

The 8900 keys feel like a half-way point between the 9000 and the 9700 which is nice. The 9700 keys are noticeably larger but the smaller form factor of the 9700 unit itself makes it less enjoyable to use. I guess I'm a big bold fan.
