Seriously, this would have made this an all in one device. The only thing left would be to eliminate the TV remote, or my PS3 controller!
Can you name me another device, even a Nokia S60 that can record VGA with 30fps?? I mention Nokia because they are the pinnacle for cellphone video recording quality. SonyEricsson has to have a 5MP camera in order to record 30fps @ QVGA resolution. The Bold will do so - according to the press releases by the first post above - at 480x360 @ 20fps. IF the hardware can do this ... I'm sure the camera pics will be better quality than we see currently in the Curve/Pearl.

However, I would've liked at least a AF (autofocus) on the 2MP but they should've gone for the 3.2MP camera (5MP would've been overkill). This is mostly the reason why the costs is comparable MSRP to the Curve at 1st release - 2MP cam I mean.

@ Jagga - I am not complaining about the device in the sense that I wouldn't buy it based on the 2MP camera. The phone is (imho) the top phone out there. My post was akin to complaining about the color of my free new ferrari.

Just watched CNBC's interview with Jim Balsillie regarding the BB Bold. He said it will be released on AT&T mid-summer and expects 200-400k units per quarter to be sold. Its all the buzz today on all the business networks/websites.

Is RIM going to phase out cameraless devices? Or make inter-series versions without cameras for their government contracts?

I think the cameras can be BES-disabled.

I think, I could be wrong, that Apple gets a bigger cut of the Iphone sales than other carriers. Which means AT&T will gladly set the two up to compete since they'll get a bigger cut of the BB.

Also, even though the phones are similar IMO both phones have a different target market. Yes there will still be people who will look at the two and make a decision, but I think that there are Iphone diehards, just like the BB diehards like us out there, who will by the phones no matter what the competitor puts out.

So is the rumored 300 to 400 dollar price point for new contracts? or existing contracts that are extended? For example, I'm already on AT&T, do I get that price if I extend my contract out another 2 years?

no definate answer, but usually upgrade prices are the same, or very close to new contract prices on AT&T

As long as you are eligible for upgrade you will be able to get it for new contract pricing if you agree to a new 2 year agreement

many times faster. Dialup to DSL in most cases. And Tmo has virtually 0 3G coverage, why would RIM launch a 3G device with them? you get the kickstart from last reports
