Default Restrictions/Differences on the Bold for Rogers

Please Login to Remove!

I believe I've read that some Bold features will not be available for Rogers users?

GPS - It seems we have the choice between paying $10/month for assisted GPS, or disabling the radio and using the Bold as a standalone (a bit slower at first, but fine thereafter?)

Dialing via WiFi - If I recall there's a feature that lets you use a wireless network to make a call, but on Rogers this will not work? Is this the case, is there a 3rd party app to get around this?

Tethering - Will this be like AT&T where we will have an additional fee? Again, any 3rd party apps to work through this?

Please help me compile a list of differences from what we see as specs/features on the Blackberry website to help myself and others make our purchase decisions.

Thanks everyone! =)

GPS - i havent heard anything about them crippling it... it should work with BB Maps like every other Berry out there (not the 8330)

Dialing via WiFi (UMA) - is not on the Rogers Bold... already have confirmation about this

Tethering - I havent heard anything about this, but i think you will be able to, just depends on how much your data package is... i believe the $30 for 6GBs allows tethering...

hopes this helps

Helps very much, thanks! In a moment I'll update the original post

From what I've asked to a Rogers distributor there would be a $10/month extra for GPS.

Tethering is good news. I am unfamiliar with UMA so I'll do some homework before I ask anything else =)

Ok. :deep breath: One more time.

ALL BB with GPS have a real GPS receiver built in.

Using the receiver to find yout long/lat is free and requires no data.

All mapping program consume data to download the maps.

You can use a variety of mapping programs. Some are static, some find a route, some do point-to-point voice assisted navigation.

Most of the navigation programs are for a fee. one time or subscription.

Rogers offers Telenav to be added to your account for $10/month.
