I hope you're right. It sounds logical, RIM wanting to release their 3g device before Apple.

It was announced first, and the AT&T blackout dates start 2 weeks before the new iPhone launch, and yet it coincides perfectly with a late June 9000 launch. I do not see them launching any other big devices soon

That's the case here. I checked last month and even though I am just over 15 months into a two year contract, if I re-sign for a new two-year contract, I am eligible for an upgrade.

Probably been answered already but anyone know, or speculate, is there a different data plan for 3G or will my current dataplan work with the Bold?

I don't think anyone knows that yet, no announcement has been made. I would say that as tight as Apple is with AT&T and they had to up their plans would tend to make me thing a hike is coming.

really depends on the market you are in some have 18 month upgrade eligibility some 21 months.

other 3G PDA device plans stayed the same, i am willing to bet that the BlackBerry will as well. Apple/AT&T may be tight as you say, but there is no way that AT&T will piss of RIM. What I think happened is that AT&T didnt make nearly as much money as they wanted to and said this is how we want things done if you want to offer your device subsidized.

The iphone plans went up because the iphone is now subsidized.

The data plan for the new iPhone now falls into line with the data plan pricing for all other PDA/smartphones

I feel the data price went up because a) they can charge more, b) iPhone users are consuming a lot of data and will consume even more with 3G), and finally they have to cover their costs to build out 3G.
