I am fairly new to the Blackberry community, so please pardon my lack of extensive knowledge. I am using the following:
Blackberry 8700g (T-Mobile)
Desktop Manager / Device Manager v4.1.0.10
S/MIME Support Package v4.1.0.4
Thinkpad T42 with Smartcard reader and WinXP
I am trying to enable S/MIME support on my device for use with a government account. The Support Package installs to the laptop, but when I use Application Loader to install it to the device I get the following error message:
The application "Blackberry S/MIME Support Package" cannot be loaded, because it requires the following applications that are not available:
net.rim.blackberry.secureemail.smime
Has anyone seen this before? Could it be that I am not running "BES" -- not sure what that is but I see it mentioned a lot. Is there a software component I am missing on my laptop that would fix this?
I believe so -- the only option I have is to check or uncheck the box for "Blackberry S/MIME Support Package" when in AppLoader.
I have seen mention of the Blackberry O/S, that it must be installed on my laptop. Is that something other than the Desktop/Device Manager 4.1 software I have installed?
I had the same issue. I am nearly the same as you:
Blackberry 8700g (T-Mobile)
Desktop Manager / Device Manager v4.1.0.10
S/MIME Support Package v4.1.0.4
Dell D820 with Smartcard reader and WinXP
To resolve the issue, you'll need the following windows installation executables:
blackberry desktop 4.1--you must select custom install, and select the certificate syncronization app to include in the installation.
The blackberry handheld software base os 4.1. - your bes administrator should have it. For me it was labled 8700m.exe
Once that is done, all the software that is currently loaded on your handheld should show up when apploader is started. Startup apploader and restore the missing items (or update) --- this is what will restore what is missing so that you can install the apps below.
The s/mime support package as you've listed- 4.1
The blackberry bluetooth smartcard reader software 4.1
Hell0o, I have the same problem but nothing here resolved it. Is there anything missing to me?? I have Desktop Manager ver 4.2 with the Support package for S/MIME ver. 4.1.
