T-Mo Blackberry Bold w/No 3G?
Please Login to Remove!
Take this with a huge grain of salt, but a user over at HoFo claims to have a friend in the development department who is telling him that the Blackberry Bold for T-Mobile will be a 3G-less version. If this is the case I will be saying hello to AT&T.

tmobile doesn't have 3G...even if the Tmobile bold had 3G capability...you wouldn't be able to use it

T-Mo has deployed 3G in New York and they're testing it in the other markets right now.

But it is on a different frequency band than ATT so ATT devices will not be capable on the TMO network.

I'm not saying that I want to use the AT&T Bold on T-Mo. I'm saying that if the Bold that T-Mo releases does not include 3G I'm jumping ship to AT&T.

Wirelessly posted (my new touch button BB)
Even if they release without 3G I am willing to bet that they will launch a 3G version before long has been rumored that ATT would get a none 3G version as well

The next generation network - 3rd generation. The AT&T 3G network uses HSDPA/UMTS technology (High Speed Downlink Packet Access/Universal Mobile Telephone System). It also provides for simultaneous voice and data services. That means you can talk and use the Internet at the same time.

I'd be cool with a 3Gless Bold. I'm OK with the EDGE speeds, and like WIFI for UMA in areas where the regular signal is weak. From what I hear (may be wrong?) 3G drains batteries pretty darn fast. The Bold without 3G would be an upgrade from my Curve in screen, processor, memory, and would add GPS.

My same exact thoughts, i'm not too crazy about speed rather than a cars speed, lol.

I posted this before, but does anyone think that the Bold will contain 3G hardware for both the ATT and Tmob networks, so you can roam like I do on their voice/EDGE networks now (I sometimes see ATT as my network on freeways)? It would sort of defeat the purpose of Tmob developing its own 3G but I was hoping the new phone would enable subscribers to "share", like we do now.

I for one am sick and tired of phone manufacturers like Apple, BlackBerry, Motorola et al choosing which cell companies their products will be offered. In the UK you can buy any cell phone you choose and it will work with any cell provider you choose. That is how it should be here.
What we need is for the American public to REFUSE TO BUY MORE CELL PHONES until such time as we can use them with any company we choose!

while that sounds like a great plan...this country (USA) is held together with shady contract deals lol...it's the way the world works. i definitely would like to see a more open cellular industry...who knows when that will happen though.........

That's the way it WILL be, but not the way it is today, unfortunately. I read somewhere that there either is a law pending or being considered that will make it illegal for a carrier to have exclusive rights to any device. Anybody able to help me here?

Although I think you have a much wider UMA base than in the UK. I'm frustrated that the phone I have has UMA but my carrier T-Mobile is not offering it.
I was surprised to hear that SMS has only become widespread in the US in the last 2 or 3 years? Is that right?
I remember in about 1995, Orange offered it as a free service for those that wanted to try it, about 2 or 3 years later it took off big style.
