Default Assign ringtone to pin

Please Login to Remove!

I've searched on assigning ringtones and know they can be assigned
to a contact's phone number and sms.
But it doesn't get assigned to their pin.

I'm 99% sure you can't assign a ringtone to a pin - but just
want to post the question to make it 100% before I tell the boss.
In the event of an emergency, he would like pins sent from our emergency co-ordinator to have a specific ring.
I don't think it can be done - would you agree?

I do not agree.
Make PIN Messages Level 1 (which they probably already are) and then assign your different ringtone to Level 1 Messages in your profile.

Thanks for the reply soupandsandwich.

I know about assigning a ringtone to level one messages and it works great.
But, what they want is a unique ringtone for pins received from just the one emergency dude.

Create a custom profile for that particular user and then set a special ringtone to the level1 messages in THAT profile. I agree with soupandsandwich, it is DEFINITELY possible.

I'm truly not a stupid person........I must be missing something because the level 1 message ringtone for the pin will not take.

Followed the FAQ (which by the way is great JSanders)
Here's what I did:

Want to have a unique ringtone for pins received from John

Created a new custom profile and called it "John"
Changed the level 1 message to the bach tone.
Saved it
"John" profile is showing on the profile list.

Made a new exception called "John"
Selected John from the address book and added him to the from field.
Changed the "use profile field" to newly created John profile from above
Removed the checkbox from "Custom Phone Tune"
Saved the changes

The normal profile is active with the "john" exception selected.
(The "John" exception is the only one selected).

So, when a pin comes in, it should play the ring tone from normal profile (electric alarm), EXCEPT if John sends me a pin it should use the "John" profile and play the bach tone.

But it doesn't. The pin from John plays the same electric alarm that is played for all of the other pins that are received.

Has anyone sucessfully set up a different pin ringtone for one person?

Did you also change mail options to "Make PIN messages Level 1" ? That's essential!!!

You also need to break away from the idea of assigning ring tones to a PIN. You assign them to a CONTACT...that contact would need to contain the PIN info for that individual. The point being...when you create an exception, the profile used applies to ALL messages from a CONTACT. What you do in the exception profile is up to you...maybe you only change Level 1 messages...but you're able to change any message.

I had this problem too. Had to wipe the device and start over to make it work. Hopefully someone here has another way.
