so basically i got given a 8520 for free off a mate, and when he had it, it worked fine. the mobile was locked to T mobile and i have an o2 sim.
i used some website to get a code to unlock my phone and now my phone reads my o2 sim

but the thing is i cant send,revives texts nor can i call anyone and i don't get calls

seriously what is up with my phone? i have plugged it into my computer and factory restored it, but that didnt help

i always have "gprs" next to my single strength and some times " edge " what do these mean? :S
its not my sim card that is broken because it works in other phones

is there something seriously wrong with my phone or is it a simple fix?

EDIT: when i go into advance options and go onto sim card and type in MEPD it shows everything disabled which means my sim should work fine with it?

After doing some more research i found out my IMEI has been barred.
meaning one of the two
1, the phone i have was lost and reported to T Mobile as lost.
2, the phone was stolen and i have now bought and own stolen property. ( not good! )

if your phone works like normal and has single strength but comes up with an error each time you try and ring someone and your phone does not revive texts by has network coverage it means your phone is Barred.

You aren't out anything. Just go buy your own device that hasn't been barred.

Phones also get disabled by the carrier if the owner skips out on an unpaid balance due. That might explain why your mate gave it to you.

and im pissed because i spent £15 unlocking it and another £10 a case for it and other stuff

yeah all mine say Disabled, so it is truely unlocked?
