Default OS: 8520 5.0.0.1682/5.0.0.1036 (Multilanguage)

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry® Curve(TM) 8520 SmartphoneThis will install to any carrier's 8520 device by following the instructions below.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1682 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1682
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 5.0.0.1036
  • Software Platform: 5.2.0.104
  • File name: 8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel1682_PL5.2.0.104_A5.0.0.1036 _Vodafone_DE.exe
  • File size: 129.39MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download the OS file here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...374C8919D2074E

Instructions to install, regardless of carrier.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously).
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a screen with an hourglass or status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

You can load this OS to any 8520, regardless of carrier. Follow the instructions in the post and you will successfully update, and NO, it will not lock your device.

hey,

Just tried and the loader.exe only wants to install/remove apps, i see no mention of any OS/Device Software?

Strange as i unlocked a 8310 using this kind of method,
But nothing happens with the 8520...
I also want to update my 9000...

Installed, deleted Vendor.xml, but loader.exe has no mention of any OS.
any advice anyone plz?

Many thanks in advance!

This method does not need a BIS plan.
Note: Important to follow this mini guide by the numbers:

1:
download and downgrade desktop manager to any version from 4.7 till 5.0.1, version 6 will not work.

2:
install your chosen OS.

3:
delete vendor.xml

4:
run DM 4/5 and update your device, when prompted choose the OS you downloaded, click next and you get an error, do NOT close the DM software,
leave it open.

5:
browse to loader.exe, run it, now you will see your OS selected with some other options, set to your preferences and install!

6:
Enjoy your new OS!

I have used this method on an 8310, 8520 and 9000 with no problems.

Hope this helps you out and anyone else having issues.
