For those wanting the Official RIM Precision theme, a resourceful person has discovered a way to get it on an 8330 using BB Swiss Army Knife. Google around and the instructions are out there - and I can confirm it's legit - I'm running it as we speak. I'd give them name so that proper credit is given - but I'm forgetful and can't remember the chaps name.

After a few battery pulls and updating some applications I got 5.0 to run. Haven't got to look around yet since I'm rebooting to finalize some of the updates. First impression: not bad. The 'Ok' and 'Cancel' buttons seem to resize themselves once you click on them. Nothing major, maybe just a theme issue since I still have my old theme running. Will try to change to a basic theme to help out and will play around with 5.0 throughout the evening. Will let everyone know how it is later this evening.

Can we hope for a 5.0 version for the 8330m in the near feature?

I ended up downgrading. Couldn't get Facebook to load. It said Facebook was unsupported. Memory leak. I normally run easily 46 and change. I was down to 21 and less. I really wanted it to be great. I wanted the threaded text messages. I'm sad. Maybe I'll try again with some updates to the OS fixing bugs. I will try a third party application for threaded text messaging. Loved the clock too!!! :( I'm going to miss that!

Massive memory leak.. Little disappointed this is an "official OS".. I feel sorry for any new BlackBerry users on Boost Mobile starting with this phone and OS Combo..

I will be using this a bit longer though, I don't want to give up hope

I do suppose though, with such an under par "Official" release an updated version should be right around the corner, right?

After a few hours of messing around with the new 5.0 OS I've noticed good and bad things.

First off, the threaded text messaging is great. It's a lot easier to know who you're talking to and what it is about. If you want to send a text to someone who you aren't currently talking to, it'll find the person while you type the first letters of their name. BlackBerry Messenger is a little bit better. I only have one contact on it so I don't use it much.

The OS as a whole, seems a little sluggish. Maybe another battery pull will help the OS settle. It seems like my BlackBerry is in a 'power save' mode by the way the screen is acting. Everything fades in and out now. The browser seems the same, a sleeker layout when you type in your own address. The Contacts screen also has a permanent search bar on the top.

The one thing that bothered me is that now the shortcut for the Profiles icon is gone. It's now called Sounds and there is no shortcut for it. I guess with some new themes they're can be ways around that, but until then it's a habit I'll have to break. "R" no longer works for the Alarm Clock, which is pretty cool now! The bedside mode is nice.

Other than those main things I've seen, my 3rd Party Apps work too. Pandora, WeatherEye, AppWorld, Facebook, YouMail, SMS, email.

I like it so far and will keep up with it. Maybe more updates in the future or hopefully Sprint will release a better 5.0 update.

@RenegadeS

Your are correct, The new features it brings are amazing, my phone was sluggish at first but It will come back to normal once it runs for a while.

Watch your file free however, I start with about 22 MB an throughout the day today I ended up at 5 MB.

I have removed more CODs and VAD so this may help. I am also watching which 3rd party apps I launch.

Wirelessly posted

Right before I was going to try out the Bedside mode my BB told me that the memory was running a little low and gave me the option of selecting some apps to remove. This I think is a new feature cause it also told me how frequently I used different apps and when I had used them last. None the less, the memory leak seems to be an issue.

How did your battery hold up SteveO86?

I have noticed a bit of a hit on battery with OS 5.0, however I have 2 batteries nowaday anyway.

I haven't seen that message from my BlackBerry yet.

Same here. The other issue was for Vlingo. I had to reinstall from the Vlingo website. It gave me an error message saying it recognized the OS5.0, but not the device as it only supported the Tour, Tour2, and Bold for the 5.0 platform. I e-mail customer service, they said to try the 5.0 download for the other devices as they had not current testing. I loaded it and it works fine. My theme I had worked, but but a little messed up, so I changed to a standard theme.

Mine was sluggish at first, but after using it over the weekend and numerous battery pulls, it seems to be running well now. Love all the new features, especially the browser and the threaded texts. The browser is much better and I will probably not need Bolt or Opera any longer.

Memory leak is an issue, it drains very quickly. I hope they fix that soon, but I like it enough I can live with the memory issue until then.

I've a few more 4rd party apps, Bellshare stuff (Berry popup/berrybuzz/berryweather) and the memory leak isn't too bad.

I will be monitoring a bit more.

Although I worked almost all day today so I didn't get to my normal weekend BB usage. But given that a I could do a normal work day without problems that is a good sign so far.

I will update as the days go by.

I've updated the OP to indicate how to determine if you have an ESN or MEID device. The only way to tell is by checking under Options -> About.

8330 = ESN
8330m - MEID

Doesn't matter if you see an MEID under Options -> Status; you could still have an ESN device so need to check the About screen.

You can load it onto a Sprint device.

Sprint may never release this version.

From what I've read so far I'm not so sure I'd want it. I'm flabergasted that the memory dropped so much and people are reporting horrible memory leaks.
