The 8900 is not a 3G phone. Its an EDGE 2.5G Phone.

I think RIM did that so that it wouldn't steal the thunder from the Bold or Storm (no pun intended).

It has a better camera, better screen, looks cooler (in my opinion). If it had 3G, there would be no point for a Bold.

Picked one up today in Toronto unlocked for $600, which is like $470 US. Good to go on AT&T. Hope not to attract too many astonished and confounded stares on the 2 train to Wall Street on Monday morning.

Oh by the way, it's the sleekest, most futuristic device that I've ever had the pleasure of owning, about on the level of the new unibody macbooks for cool factor. The screen is unbelievably crisp and bright, it feels solid as a rock with the aluminum edging, much higher quality than the plastic of the old curve. The camera takes pics that are on par with normal canon elph digital cameras, its pretty ridiculous. It fully feels like this dropped from a spaceship. You guys won't be dissapointed.

There actually is a backlit ball, so in the dark, there's a ring of light around the ball. But the ball is solid black.

Actually if you think about it, this is the smartest place to put the branding. Everyone will see it when you are talking on the phone. If you aren't talking on the phone, usually the phone is hidden in a holster or in your pocket.

Note to self, rob guy with 8900 on the 2 train monday morning!

Congrats, I know I will be getting one soon. Much as I like the Bold I am not about to switch to AT&T, so the 8900 is a much better choice for me.

I read somewhere that it does not work for the 8900. Forget which site. But said it's similar in distance apart but the location of the pins are a lot higher compared to the 8300's... Wish I remember were I read it =)... I want a Javelin so bad!

I think the rear contacts for the 8300 are slightly higher than the one for the 8900, amking the charging contacts off in the dock. I sold my 8300 the same day I bought the 8900, so unfortunately I was unable to take side by side comparison pictures.

Any GPS use on it yet? I'm seriously considering buying one unlocked and using it here on Tmobile.

Quick Q: If you purchase a device, unlock it, then put it on a different network, won't that KO UMA (even though TMobile has their own UMA service)?

Yes. Did the same thing with a T-mobile 8320 on Rogers. No luck. It;s dependent on vendor ID hard-coded in the phone.

It was me on this site - no it doesn't. I tried. It doesn't sit properly in the cradle. Dagnammit.

This is a deal breaker for me, and most TMO UMA dependent customers.
