Hello,

I purchased my first BlackBerry device and I'm loving it! I ended up buying an OEM charging pod for my 8900 from eBay but it doesn't appear to have the synching capibilities or the 2-colour LED as described on the BlackBerry home page. (I'd provide links but I don't have the required 10 post count as of yet).

Are there 2 different charging pods?

The charging pod does not sync. It only charges the device. There is one led light on the rear of the pod.

Higher priced and I'd confirm that it really does sync before purchasing; however, it is the official RIM store so it's probably correct.

None of the eBay ones advertise syncing.

I found 1 on eBay that advertises synching and it quotes item part #ASY-14396-007 (ebay id: talkaccessories). I purchased from ebay user daydeal.com that quotes the same part #ASY-14396-007.

-Combines with any travel or data cable charger to charge and/or sync with a BlackBerry smartphone
-Display smartphone while recharging, taking calls, watching videos or listening to music
-LED 2-colour indicators identify whether smartphone is charging or charged

Well I don't see how the charging pod will sync with your PC since the pod connects to the positive and negative terminals at the back of the BB where the battery latch is.

Look at the pics in this thread. Not connecting to the microUSB port = no sync.

The BB site is known to have misleading info for the 8300 charging pod and I would bet the design is exactly the same which means it just charges it (they advertise there's 2-colour charging LED and will flash when receive messages, yadi yada...etc which is not true).

From the RIM product page:

Charging Pod to re-power and/or a data cable to your handheld's USB port for syncing.

I interpret that as you put your BB in the dock and then attach a separate USB cord to sync.
