Default Charging Bold using USB

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there

I noticed that when i put my BB onto the USB it takes an absolute age to charge the battery. However when i put it on the wall charger it charges the battery fine, im sure there is something in the manual about this, but can anyone shed any light to this, is anyone else having the same issue

Everyone is having the same issue. No known cause or resolution yet....

Yes, you either need the BB desktop manager or the BB USB driver. This tells the USB port to put the full 0.5 Ampere.

You can get this driver through Windows Update:

BlackBerry Search Results

But it is included in the Desktop Manager, so if it doesn't work with the DM loaded, it probably won't work with the drivers. Also try to use USB directly, don't use an unpowered hub.

The two driver files needed are:

RimUsb.sys
RimUsbNT.inf

Do you find them in your system32\drivers directory?

Does it make a difference on mac? obviously there are very little software solutions for mac users (sigh), i have 'missing sync for blackberry' installed, is that enough for the BB to get the full power needed? plus dosent USB always give 500mA?

Macs always provide the needed 500 mA on USB. XP/Vista machines only have 100 mA (probably to save power). A driver has to be loaded to tell the USB ports to provide the full 500 mA.

So Macs are fine without driver.

I don't appear to have these drivers installed but I do have DM installed.

edit: nevermind, found them in another folder... but I still have the charging problem.

try the other USB ports on your computer. sometime the front ones do not give full power and are not 2.0. I dont think you need 2.0 though.
Try the ones on the back of your computer.
Once you install the driver then plug it in, not before or during the install.
