Try this, it uses the LED indicator as a flashlight.

Hate digging up this old thread being a newbie here and all, but a lot of people seem to ask and yet, no programs have been designed... Yet, we can get a program to designate a color on the tracking ball and what color flashes for signal strength, etc...

A flashlight off an LED (The camera's flash) is a GREAT tool. Using it for when you are in the middle of nowhere and need a light for roadside assistance, etc. is a great idea for us business travelers. The LED flash can be utilized to do an SOS call, as well. Set it on the dash and you can be seen further than an LCD screen.

Many times, I have used my SE as it has a built in program that allows use of the camera's flash and it is MUCH brighter than had I used the screen.

Just an idea to rethink for some of these awesome program guys out there.

So, challenge is set. Come up with a program that allows us to specify the function of our camera's LED flash...

On the Sony, it has the following options:

1) On for 30 seconds
2) On (This is on until you tell it to be off)
3) Off
4) SOS

No colors, no disco crap - just used as a flashlight.

This nonsense about battery life and such is crazy. LEDs use less battery than typical lighted sources. The battery drain from using it for 5 minutes is going to be minimal. No worry on the unit blowing up, the battery getting so hot it shuts down or the "Back to the Future" capacitor idea...

Like he said above Blinkberry has a flashlight setting. There was somebody in the past that figured out a flashlight app for free (I think Blinkberry costs money). Flashlight can be done with the white front LED. I don't think anybody has done it with the flash on the back, but I'd be surprised if that is any brighter then the front LED. It's worthless as a flash as it is.

I hate to rub it in but on the new 8130 you can turn the flash on for video use. It stays on untill you turn it off and it is really bright.

But the study said the men probably included talking while using a urinal, where it is more difficult to hold on to the phone with one hand and..... well you can imagine the rest, especially if the phone slips if one is holding the phone on the shoulder with one's cheek. Besides, how can one hold the phone with one's cheek and see what the heck is going on down there?
Using the phone while at the urinal? Bluetooth baby!!

Umm guys the light is easy, go into the video camera and press space. Easy to set it up if you put it to the right easy access key, in two pushes of a button you will have light.

I think someone has but I *think* it uses the LED and not the flash. Let me check around.

I got this form someone else but if you take the video recoding app from a os for the 8300 and force load it on the 8100 you can set it to always have on the night recording light ie the flash LED and it is super bright. if you load any other apps on the phone the app manager will delete it so you have to put it back on. if i find the orig post i will post a link. heres the link to the first post i found it in http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ml#post1096401
