Default Repeaters ?!

Please Login to Remove!

I just talk with a guy, who is doing EMF detections..

He told me, that he got the information that Iphones was able to be used as cellular repeaters.. And that maybe blackberries was to be used that way too..

Does someone ever heard something about that ?! I dont think that RIM is crazy to get there.. but i'm asking

Not sure what you mean....

We have repeaters in our building at work to amplify the signal for both our Sprint and Nextel phones and BlackBerry devices. Got it from the carrier, not RIM. It actually takes the signal from outside, and disperses it thru various antennas that are inside the building (a very, very large building).

What I mean, and told by the guy (who I dont really believe), is that the Iphone can ACT as a repeater.

So someone told you a story that isn't verified, and you "dont think that RIM is crazy to get there". Now what?

How would an iphone act as a signal amplifier for other phones? Seems odd.

I think you need to talk to the guy doing EMF injections and ask that he share his wonder dust with you

Haha, I keep picturing this dramatic image in my head:

"Oh no, there is no service in this building! I have no bars!!!"

"Don't worry, I have my iphone! *touches screen randomly*"

"Full bars all around!!! Yay!"

Sounds like something from a Star Treck script spitballing session:

A person performing <technical procedure> told me that <technical device> can perform <technical function>.

In every such case you need to ask that person the questions. Sounds to me like it was already second if not third hand information before it got to you. If that was possible there would be an iPhone app that would set up a mesh back to the closest one with Wi-Fi access and no one would be paying AT&T.

My iPhone 3Gs can barely hold a signal for its own use, let along acting as a repeater.

Google can do this. I was told by a very reliable person (ApacheIndian) that any Google phone can do ANYTHING you want it to, including be used as a repeater. It's all in the cloud!

Google can act as a repeater? Is there an app for that? Or is there an app for cat?

The cat is the repeater. But good luck keeping a signal. They are 'shut down' for nearly 20 hours a day.
