Okay fellas, be gentle. I am new to this blackberry area, so please keep that in mind.

Before posting this need for direction, I spent three hours searching and reading all of the posts on the topic, as well as googling the issue. I became even more confused and perplexed. So, I said, let me just ask my fellow forum members to tell me what to do.

I just purchased a used 8700c and had it unlocked to use with T-mobile. One of the reasons why I went with the 8700 was because i was in the T-mobile store and the sales guy showed me how loud the call volume and speakerphone was on the 8700g. I was really imprressed with the volume loudness.

I want to upgrade the OS on the 8700c but in reading all of the posts some say the T-mobile Bharti is not as loud as the Telestra OS, and some say it is.

My questions are:

1. Which is the better OS the Bharti or the Telestra

2. Will I see a volume difference between the two

3. Can someone explain the benefits of the Zen theme over the theme that comes on the BB

4. FOr a newbie, what do you recommend for the best OS and theme setup, that does not require to much technical hacking

I know the above questions are basic and elementary. But after reading all of the past posts on these matters, I got even more confused and really need someone to break this down in simplistic form

Again, I apologize for raising matters that have been discussed countless times

Greetings,

First off welcome to the forums. Good to hear you did the searching and I can understand your confusion. I'll try to do this as simply as possible!

1. I'm not quite sure which the better OS is, I myself have the latest version of Telestra and am quite pleased with the call, ringer and speaker phone volume.

2. Again I'm not sure if you will see a difference in volume between the two however as I stated I have had absolutely no issues with the latest Telestra.

3. The Zen theme is great for simplicity. It puts 5 icons of programs on your home screen plus a menu icon that will bring up a menu of all of the other programs on the BB. I have the 5 main programs I use on the home screen and bring up the menu for everything else.

4. Personally I do recommend the latest Telestra OS with the Zen them. It's nice and simple and with all of the shortcuts it makes for just all around a great setup.

Here are a few links to instructions on setting up your BB with Telestra and Zen. Hope this helps!

PailBBLC:

Thanks so much for the direction. I really did try to educate myself by doing a search, but things seemed to get more and more complicated and confusing for a newbie. I at least understand what the Zen theme is all about and the need for it. I am still somewhat confused as to the best OS is concerned.

T-mobile told me that there is a new firmware out that addresses the problems with the sensitive mike picking up all of the background noise that callers hear when you speak to them from the 8700. Has anyone heard of this. If so, please direct

To choose the best OS, my recommendation would be to read what people say when a new version comes out.

I'm currently with Telstra and I like it. I wanted to upgrade to Dobson when it came out in August, but then I read that people had problems with it and they thought it wasn't stable so I didn't upgrade.

I didn't read whether people are pleased with Bharti or not, but I probably will upgrade one day or another.

I've read a lot of people saying that Telstra was the best and most stable version so far.

As for TMO's new version, they're probably talking about 4.1.0.284, all the other versions are more recent: Telstra (4.1.0.371), Dobson (4.1.0.456) and Bharti (4.1.0.466)

I have heard that the new Tmo OS cuts down on background noise quite a bit however I have had no complaints from people I'm talking to on the bb with the OS I'm running which is actually the newest Bharti release (.466).

I thought for sure I was still on Telestra but I had upgraded recently to the new Bharti. My apologies for the miss info. I've done so many upgrades that I confused myself.

Guys, again thanks alot.

So, the higher the OS number, the latest the edition. IS that correct. To make sureI have the latest Bharti, look for the higher OS number. I am just trying to determine which is the latest OS release.
