It still has the keyboard lock function. The change is that that function is no longer activated by the 'K' keyboard shortcut. The left shoulder key still works, though.

I never had any trouble with SMS with previous versions of 5.x, so I can't comment. SMS still seems fine.

I've only had it installed for a few hours, so these are just initial observations:

-- On the whole, my 8900 feels less laggy and more responsive. Interestingly, I had installed "berryjoose" under 5.0.0.411 and saw no improvement. 5.0.0.461, without it, shows the improvement I'd hoped for. There seems to be less lad in all operations and transitions.

-- If a program installation calls for a reboot, when the reboot is complete, a screen offers details of the process.

-- The photo resize dialogue no longer has a "Use this for future photos" (or whatever) option. Since it defaulted to the last one used anyway, that checkbox was superfluous.

Not much, but that's all I've noticed so far.

I've had issues with sms on all versions of 5.xxx and this version is no exception. If I have an on going text conversation sometimes it won't let me open the converstaion up unless I act like I am starting a new conversation with the person. This version is worse-won't let me open some at all, have to wait for either a new text from that person or delete history and start over.

Also for some reason my phone no longer charges on the dock. Charges just fine with the wall charger but the dock is not recognized.

Hate threaded text and the bugs so I think I am going back to 4.7.

Downloaded this yesterday. I find it is much less taxing on my battery (or maybe it is all in my head).

Also, like an earlier post, the Keyboard Lock function is gone. Left shoulder button doesn't work for me. Keyboard Lock icon is gone as well. I had previously set-up one of the side keys to lock my keyboard when I pressed it.

Anyone know who to get the lock function back?? is there a .cod file we can swipe from a different build or something??

just messed with my phone a bit more. seems the only lock function available is to have the password lock on. then the shoulder key and the "soft key" i had set to lock the keypad works (but you have to enter a password).

I liked it better before when you could just opt to lock the keyboard with out needing a password.

If I'm missing a setting or something would love for someone to set me straight!!

Noticed WiFi won't auto connect as it did with .411...another poster had success by checking the "Enable single profile scanning" in setup. Yes, it works.

A few days later...

-- I do have a password set, and the left shoulder key locks the 8900 down, exactly as the 'K' shortcut used to. At least, that's what I'm seeing on my 8900.

-- Battery life was good with .411 and seems just as good with .461.

-- I've had no spontaneous reboots yet. With .411 they were fairly frequent, especially when doing stuff with the browser, like scrolling in a zoomed page or backing out of an incompletely loaded page.

-- Oddly, there were some sites that I had trouble loading in OperaMini beta 5. For some reason, they load just fine now, with .461.

-- The memory leak seems about the same as always.

yeah.... if a password is set, keyboard lock function inherent in the phone acts normally. However, you must have a password set.

with .411, you did not need to set a password and the shoulder key worked just fine.

Really a stupid change (or miss) by RIM. Very annoying.

The failure of the shoulder key to work with no password set looks like a bug. The removal of the 'K' shortcut may be intended, although I don't know why. But I don't know why they took away the 'F' shortcut for managing profiles either, and that was a few OS releases back.

I've noticed another quirk: With this OS, JiveTalk tends to lose connectivity under WiFi, and doesn't reconnect. If I switch back to EDGE, it comes back online.

I'm also sometimes seeing greater than normal lag getting the screen to light up after it times out and goes dark. When I press a key, it'll stay black and show the hourglass for a second or so--enough to be noticeable.

I have no trouble connecting with DM with a password set.

I should add...phone calls when I'm on WiFi are still terrible. My impression is that they were bad in .238, a bit better but still bad in .411, and as bad as ever in .461. They start out okay, but deteriorate quickly, to the point where I can't understand anything said to me.

I went to this directly from 348 on my 8900, and very glad to make the move. EVERY app I've used seems to work perfectly on 468, I've got 15 to 20MB more free memory with this release, and the battery lasts longer.

Surprised to hear that Ubizmo has WiFi/UMA problem, but maybe our setups are different. UMA has been superb with this version -- flawless, and sound quality is excellent. Also noticed that the battery seems to last longer when I'm on UMA for most of the day than on days when I'm on the regular GPRS/EDGE network. All in all I'm loving this release.

You've checked settings to make sure you've set "Wi-Fi preferred"?

I just had a nice test of UMA with the 8900 and this release: I'm snowed in NJ today and had to host a meeting in NYC. Used a conference line and tried to call in via Verizon (land line via FIOS) -- but got an "all circuits are busy" message. So I called in from my 8900 instead, using UMA.

I wound up hosting a 1 hour meeting using the 8900's speaker phone, connected over UMA through the T-Mobile-provided Linksys router that comes with T-Mobile@Home service. The connection was superb: excellent sound quality -- sounded corded, and not a single hiccup during the 1 hour UMA call. I also continue to find that UMA / Wi-Fi seems to connect almost instantly with this release.

I'd suggest that your problem isn't with the OS release itself, but instead perhaps with settings that may have defaulted to something you need to change with this release.

Options / Mobile Network / Connection Preference -- then click the gray drop-down. Choices should be:

- Mobile Network Only
- Mobile Network Preferred
- Wi-Fi Only
- Wi-Fi Preferred
