Default 8707h Japanese input firmware 4.2.2_rel239_PL3.4.0.22_A4.2.2.122 now available

Please Login to Remove!

Found and installed this on my 8707v last week(obviously removed the vendor.xml file)

Works flawlessly, can read and write Japanese and Chinese. Heres the link:
http://http://www.docomo.biz/html/product/8707h/download/index.html

PS.
I checked the site today and they have posted the following message:
Due to a problem discovered in the BlackBerry 8707h Device Software version 4.2.2, available from 7/23 with full Japanese language support, distribution of this software version has been halted. As the technical problem is still under investigation, further details will be provided to customers as soon as they have been confirmed.
We apologize for the trouble this problem may have caused, and we ask for your understanding with this issue.

I am now trying to extract the Japanese language support files for use on other qwerty devices. If anyone has any useful info, please feel free to post!
Thanks

Is there any way I can get the downloaded OS file from you? Are there any significant changes in 4.2.2 versus 4.2.1 available from Vodafone UK? Thanks.

Lol, its an extra phone I have laying around. I tried to go big at first by simply replacing folders except for the UMTS and the GPRS folders and editing the blackberyy.alx file. No go. So then I tried replacing files inside of the java folders no go! Then I only tried to replace the zen theme to the new 4.2.2.122 one, nothing lol.

In 4.1 you could do this easily with software between the 8703, 8700 and 8707. But going from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 must be to big of a change. It was fun to experiment, back on the shelf it goes.

Smile Japanese input software is back online.

Information for firmware v4.2.2.122 (Platform 3.4.0.24)
BlackBerry 8707h - NTTxxx402;hxxx402;Rxxx402;xxx8218;xxx402;rxxx402;Wxxx402;lxxx402;Xxxx402;Ixxx402;xxx8220;xxx402;xxx8240;xxx402;Cxxx402;xxx8220;
Download:
BlackBerry 8707h - NTTxxx402;hxxx402;Rxxx402;xxx8218;xxx402;rxxx402;Wxxx402;lxxx402;Xxxx402;Ixxx402;xxx8220;xxx402;xxx8240;xxx402;Cxxx402;xxx8220;

The reason why it got taken off line was due to a charging fault was is now resolved with the new platform.

I have spent a lot of time on trying to extract the input language files from this firmware. I have found the input langauge has a particular script which only seems to be compatible with either the 8707 device or Platform 3.4.0.22/24.

If you want to simply be able to view emails in japanese, then you must copy the net_rim_font_japanese.cod file from Java folder and place it on your desktop. Then use Javaloader to install it on to any BlackBerry (much easier this way).

To be able to completely change the device language to Japanese requires more effort by copying and editing alx files to the device firmware you want it for. Every device firmware is unique and so this method is not straightforward.

Hope this helps.

Hello. I'm a newbie here just came across the posting from Google. Is there a possibility that the font alone or the input method part of the firmware can be applied to 8300/Curve?

Thank you!

Ive tried this without much success. I have settled for copying the net_rim_font_japanese.cod with the javaloader so it can at least read Japanese.

Get the 8707v (Vodafone) or g (O2) and install the NTT firmware on it.

Vodafone UK have now made available a new firmware for the 8707v
8707vCJK_PBr4.2.2_rel342_PL3.4.0.24_A4.2.2.186_VOD AFONE_(UK)
which allows both read and write in Japanese:

Hi all,

Does anyone know if O2 have a similar update for the 8707g?

I have been trying unsucessfully for the past week to get japanese read/write on some 8707's

I tried this link that they gave to me
http://www.btcellnet.net/misc/8707vC_PBr4[1].1.0_rel528_PL3.2.0.9_A4.1.0.378.exe

and

http://www.btcellnet.net/misc/8700C_...A4.1.0.377.exe

both of these exe files dont even open on any of my pc's. I tried deleting the vendor.xml file but that didnt work either.

I also tried downloading the update from the o2 website (BlackBerry from O2 - Help and support) but the latest 8707g software on there only gives me the ability to read japanese email.

Does anyone have similar prob or can help?

I think the next step would be to try downloading the update from NTT in japan.. does anyone have the link for this?

Thanks a lot!!

Default Japanese dictionary (japanese input and display)

Hi all,

If anyone has a chance, could you try the following dictionary on any device besides the 8707h? BB Jisyo - Japanese Dictionary for Blackberry
Its tested and works on 8707h, but it would be great to know if it can be used with a device that just supports fonts (and not input).

Cheers

We have loaded this in the UK and in Germany. It works on the UK device and not on the German device. The UK device was new and the German device had previously had namimail installed and working on it. I deleted vendor.xml during install, used the latest Blackberry desktop manager 4.3. Chinese input works with this firmware in Germany but not the Japanese Romaji input method. Any idea what I need to check.

What is it in the Device.xml or CJK.alx files that might make this firmware UK specific or prevent the Roamji methiod from working? All the .cod files referenced in the Romaji method section of the CJK.alx have loaded on the device and I gave them all full permissions.

net_rim_tid_AWnnJapanese.cod
JapaneseOptions.cod
net_rim_tid_dynamic_transcoding_data_Shift_JIS.cod
net_rim_tid_dynamic_transcoding_data_EUC_JP.cod
net_rim_font_japanese.cod
net_rim_runtime_resource__ja.cod
net_rim_bb_resource__ja.cod
net_rim_bb_diagnostic_resource__ja.cod
net_rim_wlan_bb_resource__ja.cod

We downloaded Australian firmware for this and it worked fine on the curve and allowed the reading of japanese fonts
