I also recently went from an 8830 World Edition to a Torch and although the GPS does seem to be a bit slower to acquire a signal, it is as accurate as the 8830. Nothing terrible, it just takes a few more seconds. On the other hand, I found that the 8830 was always losing its GOS signal if I was multitasking. In other words, I would be looking at Google maps, then if the phone rang and I took the call then hung up, my GPS signal was often gone and would not come back. I would have to exit from maps, then re-open maps to re-acquire the GOS. The Torch always seems to reacquire without exiting.

I'm with AT&T, I don't think we can use BB maps. I use google maps - Better than TeleNav, and it's free!

I prefer the Garmin...for $100 it's perfect and there's no monthly fees. Although I find the battery drain on the Torch to be abit much.

I'm using Google's GPS and it shows my location within 6 meters 85% of the time.

I have quite the same problem. My GPS works, because if I renew my location in the options menu it gives correct information. But I can not get it to work in Blackberry Maps or Google maps. Blackberry maps only gives me a certain radius in which I am located, and Google maps states the GPS is currently unavailable.

How do I configure these apps to work correctly and track my movement?

Thnx!!

I'm using the Torch and I can't get to this menu option.
Did you write the BB Torch Manuals???

You will need to go to Options>Device>Location Settings, the setting will be in there. New OS6 options layout.

I've found my torch's gps to definitely exceed the performance of my old 8820. Once it acquires a fix it holds it well. It even works inside my house and I have found performance to be equal in BB Maps and Google Maps.

lol. I'll give you that one. I only ever sign up to PC related forums so when it asked for an OS I was in auto mode.

Having said that....I'm thinking RIM's OS is going to be just as good as Bill Gates Windows....

Back to the GPS.
From my main screen I click MENU - OPTIONS and I get "Launch By Typing" which is it seems a Universal Search screen.

So then I went to MENU - MAPS - OPTIONS and I get the ability to change the BackLight Timeout.

So once again.....How does one get to this OPTIONS - DEVICE selection.

Is does not appear on my torch menu.

Just found it.. There is TWO OPTIONS. One from pressing the main MENU key on the phone and selecting options from there or OPENING the ACTUAL TRAY and selecting the OPTIONS that has the little spanner.

A little clarity folks goes a long way. Could they not have called that SETTINGS or CONFIGURATION rather than having two OPTIONS. Is Bill Gates involved with RIM's????

The browser in OS6 is a vast improvement over OS5, but I don't like the stock theme and replaced it with a third party "Today" theme which, among other things gets me to options right from the home page. I agree, the new options menue, while pretty, is much less functional than in previous OSs. Not intuitive at all.

Not sure if I should be posting this here but I have the opposite problem. I'm in the courier biz so use the maps app a lot but with Torch every time I look up an address it brings it up but then automatically starts tracking my location via GPS which I don't want. I've tried to find an option to turn it off but can't seem to find one, any help?

My torch gps works flawlessly. I have upgraded the operating system 3 times but the gps has worked well with all of them. I use google maps and the garmin application. Did you remember to turn the gps on? Setup-options-location settings- , turn location ON

when you open the map application it will show the last time you used it location so that could be why its showing you in the wrong place. when im inside the building where I work tower triangulation shows me 1/2 mile - sometimes more - away from where i am but when i pop out, a few minutes on the streets and it points exact location. Tall building and structures disturb your gps signal and accuracy.
