I'll second that. I too find it frustrating trying to get the sensitivity of the touch pad just right.

I have played with these settings repeatedly, studied the manual, and still have no understanding of what they mean. RIM's skill in using simplified language has failed here.

What we need is...for example:

"A lower number in this setting will require you to press harder to make a touchscreen selection..."

"If you want to see what a touchscreen key does, choose a higher number for this setting..."

Get on it, RIM!

Tap Interval
Tap Interval, measured in milliseconds, refers to the maximum amount of time that can elapse between each consecutive tap in a double-tap or triple-tap gesture. In this way, Tap Interval is very similar to double-click speed on a computer. For example, if Tap Interval is set to 100 milliseconds, a second tap must land within 100 milliseconds of the first tap for it to be successfully recognized as a double-tap gesture.

Hover Period
Hover Period is also measured in milliseconds. Hover Period determines the amount of time you need to touch the screen, without clicking it, for a hover event. For example, if this is set to 500 milliseconds then you must touch the screen for 500 milliseconds before it is recognized as a hover event.

Swipe Sensitivity
Swipe Sensitivity changes the responsiveness for swipe events when sliding your finger on the screen. For example, setting this field to 6 will make it easier to show or hide the keyboard or to go from picture to picture using a swipe of the finger.

Thank you!

Very clear.

So there's no setting that allows you to prescribe how hard you touch the screen to click? Would help those who complain about face-dialing.

Great article. This absolutely improved my experience with pulling up the on-screen full menu when I hover on the touch screen!

just changing the hover on the device to a longer interval might help but that is all I would say you can do on that one

What are some of the other internals users have set up? Just curious.

Mine right now are
tap: 400
hover: 300
swipe: 6

Which I think are all standard settings...

Try holding it down a little longer. I get a pop up with different characters including the capital.
