Default Slow synchronisation

Please Login to Remove!

My synchronisation process takes a really long time.
I have about 2000 calendar entries and during the process the system reads each entry in the device twice and then each entry in outlook twice (one to read and once to process) then it tells me about the updates, deletions etc and then when i accept these the system again reads the whole device and outlook again.
So to synchronise takes at least 10 - 15 minutes.
I have tried to set up the sync option for calendar items 60 days back and then 100 days forward but this does not help
Is there any solution to this?

So it does complete without errors?
Did it take this long the first time you synced or is this the first time you're syncing?

2000 is a lot of calendar entries. That could be the issue.

Thanks
My calendar in Outlook has all my history which I obviously want to keep.
That is why I tried to sync for only 60 days history. This does not help though as it still reads the entire outlook calendar.

This is not the first time I have synchronised and it takes this long every time.

The only other way would be to archive all Outlook appointments which I dont really want to do

There must be a better way to do this - I never had this problem when I used windows mobile on my old phone - the process was quick with just as many entries

You wouldn't have the problem if you were on BES but I don't think there is a way around it if you sync manually.

Default Slow Sync??!!!

Background: I have a BB Bold with about 1500 calendar and 1500 contact entries, and I sync with Outlook. I have been syncing a PDA for 13 years (Palm up until 6 months ago). My sync takes 7-8 minutes with a BB, it took 25 seconds with a treo with the same amount of data.

I have read several threads on the speed of the BB sync vs. other devices. I sync a couple of times a day to avoid conflicts in my data - I use my PIM a lot, both on the device and the PC.

It seems that with the BB you just have to live with 5 to 15 minute syncs. For all of the wonderful features that the BB community loves, it is TOTALLY insane that everyone just accepts the horrendous syncing performance. In one of the old threads, the one useful comment was "downgrade from 4.5 to 4.3 - it is much faster". Downgrading as a solution???!!!

Why doesn't the community demand a better sync? I am boggled. The algorithm needed is fairly straightforward. You tag each entry (in device or desktop) as is is changed/Added/Deleted and only worry about syncing the tagged entries.

Help me understand why everyone seems to tolerate this situation?
