Default Duplicate Calendar Entries

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All

A few of my users are getting duplicate entries on their handheld devices and in Outlook. It generally occurs when they accept a meeting request.

I am having the same issue.
It seems to occur randomly with only our Blackberry users. They'll accept a meeting request and it comes up fine. If that meeting request is changed by the organizer it will sometimes put a duplicate or triplicate in there calendar instead of just updating the original entry.

We are running BES 4.1.6 MR6 and Outlook 2007

Some of our customer's are experiencing the same issue. They have dup entries on their BB calendar but their Outlook calendar looks fine. I noticed they only have 1 desktop (cical) service book, but they have 2 desktop calendars under: calendar>options. Not sure how to get rid of one of those desktop calendars without doing a wipe? Any ideas? BES 4.1.4 Exchange 2007

Thanks

I've seen this type of issue in the Domino environment. The only way I've found to fix it is to wipe the device and reactivate.

The problem is with the Desktop[CICAL] service book. It gets corrupted in transit and tries to synch back to the server again. Because it's corrupted, a new one replaces the old one. But the entries created by the corrupted SB are still present since they have a different UID. Therefore, duplicate entries and also 2 desktop calendars listed under Calender > Options.

If device has OS 4.5, try the following:

Calendars > Options

Highlight "Desktop" or any other of the calendars listed and type "rset" (missing 1 e).

this wipes the local handheld calendar database and pulls from the server.

Works like a champ!

Still not managedto resolve this...
any suggestions

I performed the cdo.dll reg fix but that was a workaround rather than a fix, I could really do with a permanant fix???

Thanks

Which reg fix?
Did you search, there have been lots of threads about this. For a start I would -

Get to MR5 - some cal sync fixes in there as per usual
Use the MS best practise KB to reduce delegates etc for affected users and ensure they accept invites in the way MS wants them to

Assuming your CDO.dll files are all current and matching, I usually see this solved by looking at delegates the user has and their invite-acceptance behaviour.

Are you moving the mailboxes from one storage group to another? One server to another?

Are the users having these issues all using the same device model and/or OS version?

We had an issue with Verizon 8330's and 4.2 (or 4.3) OS that had a bug in it. I contacted RIM about this issue because we had groups of users with the same device in the same office with duplicate Desktop Calendars (sometimes triple and more). This occurred when their mailboxes were moved. According to RIM, there was a known bug with that particular OS that caused this behavior on the device. We upgraded the OS and no issues since.

Test some of the users by wiping and reactivating. Move the mailboxes, first from one mail store to another. If that doesn't cause issues, try one server to another. If this definitely duplicated the issue, check for and update the device OS's.

If there is corruption I would plug device into DTM and Backup/Restore - Advanced and then Clear all Calendar.

Then resync to the BES

Well you need to be confident so before the MR5 install go and ensure your BESs and Exchange boxes all match. There are plenty of threads on here on what to check and the versions required.

cdd.dll's all match and MR5 went on without issue, oh apart from MDS pointing to the wrong java version which stopped MDS services running. Quick registry change to repoint to old java and job done.

Thanks for your comments Stu, hopefully this will resolve my duplicate outlook calendar entries

Cool Ruan

Hi all. I have a very similar problem and think I might have a solution. just wants to know if this would make sense to you.

All my clients have mailboxes on Exchange 2003. They use a mix of Office 2003 and Offcie 2007. The only users that have this duplicate problem is where the manager has a BlackBerry device. Any BB device. If the deligate access on the manager's mailbox is set up to send the meeting requests and responses only to the delegate, the problem does NOT occur. As soon as yo uchnage the settings so that the request delivers on the BlackBerry device , and the delegate send an update on that secific meeting, it creates a duplicate.

I think this has something to do with the fact that the mail header is delivired to the Device and as soon as the delegate updates the meeting, it sends out a "Second" or "new" request. That creates the duplicate.

Please reply if anyone has any other advice!
