I finally got brave enough to try the upgrade after spending weeks reading through the threads and it really is awesome! It didn't take more than half an hour for the whole process although I am still setting other things up. My email was working immediately and my faves were updated before I even got through going through setup. I am still laughing about blinding my husband with the light while making a short trial video of him. I really appreciated not having to scroll down, down, down, to get to the heart of my HTML emails. So far, so good!

Question Different outcomes from OS Upgrades

Just curious on why there have been so many different outcomes from upgrading OS on bb - Error codes, UMA/no UMA, e-mail, browser, media card, etc.. (from reading the posts). Is that OS stability, hardware revisions, human handling or anything else?

MY only experience from 4.2.2.180 to 4.5.0.51 has been all positive on 8320 with BIS. I came from Moto Vx camp where I had to do similar things to get Chinese and its input methods supported. I haven't seen this much issues in the counterpart messages. Of course, the Vx are just phones, no BES/IT policy, no BIS, no applications to complicate things.

Well, you mentioned a couple already. Also, 3rd party apps, PC configurations and just plain not reading the instructions are all reasons for the different outcomes.

Have .69 installed and running perfectly on my 8320. Only issue is that HTML mail option is Off and doesn't appear to be changeable. There's a little red dot, or maybe it's a padlock next to it.... ??

How is the video recording going for the 8320? I plan to upgrading to one soon and want a phone with video.

It works. It's not the greatest resolution but it works in a pinch.

What are some advantages of the Curve compared to the Pearl?

Default Save email attachments

Thinking of upgrading from .52 to .55. Can I save email attachments with this upgrade?
I saw some post about .69 having this ability.

It works best for me on WiFi. I have mixed results when on EDGE. Also, it could be your carrier. Many of them block streaming media.

Well I know for sure it isn't the carrier. Friends with same carrier could view it on iphones, and that is what gets me mad! Anyway thanks, i'll try to upgrade the os to v4.5and see if it's any good...

Oh, you haven't upgraded to OS 4.5? OS 4.5 is required to view YouTube. I assumed you upgraded already since you are posting in the latest OS thread for the 8320.

Installed it. Love the new features, do not love the performance. Lots of hourglass, lots of lag on my tmo 8320. Also, the option to customize folders doesn't work - stuck with only the plain manila.

Only reason I'm keeping it is for Telenav. It stopped working for my tmo 8320 4.2 platform - they said it's a common issue. They also told me it won't work for 4.5, which it does...
*****

After using the phone a bit more, I am having a huge problem. Every time I hit shift alt delete, all of my icons get jumbled, folders are lost and hidden items unhidden. This makes the OS almost unusable as I have a ton of icons and searching through them isn't going to work. The theme I'm using is today plus.

Anyone know anything about this, have any fixes???? Thanks.

Anyone seen a sitiuation where certain phone numbers come up with a "can't be reached as dialed, call 611" type of message? The number calling is OK from other phones, but not BB after upgrade...

That question is probably best for another forum, but ill answer it quickly..

I tried the pearl before i got my curve for a couple reasons.

1.) US Cellular didnt have the curve yet.
2.) My girlfriend already had the curve, and i wanted to try the pearl.

Although the pearl is smaller, i got tired of trying to do "trutype" or whatever its called on there. It was harder to use than predictive text (T9), although they are very much the same.
I switched to the curve, and realised how much easier it is to do everything. I now actually prefer the slightly larger size of the curve.
