Default Browser with java script?

Please Login to Remove!

Has there been any more news about the new browser release that will handle java script (4.0 I think). I had heard that it might be sometime in September.

Nope, it won't be out that soon, but it won't be too much longer than that.

Although BlackberryOS 4.0 is probably going to be ready soon enough, they may delay it if the carriers drag their feet in releasing the newer version of BWC (and/or BES). The newer servers are necessary to enable the extra features of the web browser.

I am running 4.0.0.100 and even JavaScript doesn't work because neither the BWC/BES infrastructure is upgraded yet to accomodate the new features. I'm looking forward to it!

Unfortunately, I don't think some carriers will get the 4.0 infrastructure deployed till early next year. Rogers (The carrier of the users at RIM's offices/factory) will be one of the quicker ones to roll it out but even they can lag a bit.

It is possible the first people to have a fully functioning 4.0 browser will be the BES/MDS users, especially if Mailstreet or another BES/MDS hosting service (such as MyBlackberry.us) deploys 4.0 servers before any of the carriers do.

As far as carrier infrastructure, I'm still looking into it, but company-wise, our IT department plans to have T-Mobile USA running on BES 4.0 by the end of the year.

Default Why no JS in WAP?

So interesting. I'm quite new to the mobile browsing world, but it's my new task at work where I'm a web deisgner/dev.

Why do no major mobile browsers support Javascript? Is it a memory/processing issue, or some sort of security issue? The interface gains from adding JS will be huge.

On a somewhat related note, any idea if the hover property in CSS will be added anytime soon?

I think by enabling any scripting language, you create a potential security risk.

But the main thing is, I think, is that JS has a lot of things in it that simply aren't going to work on a blackberry, like launching multiple browser windows, or doing mouse-over actions.

Does anyone have an example of a site that uses JS that won't work on a blackberry?
