The software industry is a scandal. Most of it comes from the fact that it is not a science. They should be awarding Bachelor of Arts degrees in Artificial Languages or Theology because this is exactly what software is. I also find it a immoral profession using gimmicks and tricks freely in their profession. There is very little real innovation in software.
It is very ironic that the first real operating system was UNIX, which was developed somewhat scientifically by a Telecommunications Company AT&T. The computer companies like IBM and DEC (if anyone still knows who they are!) did not know how to design a operating system because they had voodoo practitioners trying to do it. Unix was the first and only real innovation in operating systems. That was 40 years ago. Software is squandering hardware resources and technology and treating the computer as a slave to be whipped to death (Microsoft!).
Most of software theory comes from people with a B.A degree who are mesmerized by Greek mythology and Greek Gods. This ugliness is unfortunately ported over to software. It is no wonder the profession has bizarre problems, bizarre people, bizarre creations etc. For example did you know that if your software project is behind schedule and you hire more people to speed it up, it will actually TAKE LONGER to complete the project. This is really bizarre but it is really true and is well known in software management circles.
The profession should be disbanded. It is a total disgrace to the human mind and civilization in general.
A summary of the main points in this important thread is required.
1. Microkernels are more bloated, complicated and slower than Monolothics.
2. To understand Microkernels you have to understand context fully. Ha! Ha! Ha! Both the OS and application. Ha! Ha!
3. Micros use proprietary software. This will be a problem for Apps and 3rd Party Software.
4. The internet is driven by BSD and Linux both of which are solid and ultra-reliable monolithic kernels.
5. Software is not a science. It is a religion.
6. Programmers are Neanderthal voodoo artists.
7. Mathematicians don't understand mathematics.
8. Software is full of gimmicks and tricks. It is very conservative and aloof by nature.
9. Most software projects are cancelled, incorrect, too buggy, costly, inefficient, outdated.
10. Software is bizarre. This is it's primary characteristic. The people involved, their minds, personalities, ideas, problems, solutions etc. are all bizarre.
Wow, trolls come and go here, that's not unusual. But this one seems not only bitter, but truly and honestly delusional. Condolences to anyone who has to deal with him/her/it in real life, as opposed to just on an internet message board.
