I was trying to get Google Local to launch since I had an icon in my app folder. I kept getting a network error message and it couldn't connect. But it looked like it was continuing to try to connect.
I finally found Google Maps and understand that this is the replacement for Google Local (although I have both icons in my folder).
I noticed however, that my phone's battery began draining much faster than usual. Even this morning, after being connected to power all night, after one hour of being unplugged, I was down to 70% already.
I then noticed that my BB8700 would show the data connection arrows going both ways, pretty much continuously, but I wasn't showing any new emails come through.
I went back into the Apps folder, clicked on Google Local again, but this time, made sure to "quit" the app. This stopped the data arrows. I'm guessing that if Google Local was continually trying to access the network in the background, that was eating up the battery? Can anyone confirm this?
Also, if that is true, how do I fully remove Google Local? (especially since I have Google Maps working now).
I had the same problem. When you're finished using Google Local, don't just exit via the "back" button. Be sure to quit the application via the thumbwheel menu. This will solve your battery drain problem.
