Anyone heard any status on 5.0? I know at WES 2008 they said they wanted the release to be flawless and they would take their time to release but I haven't heard any rumors in a while.

I am hoping next year some time (fall-winter). We should get more news at next years WES. Too bad I will be unable to attend next year, I get VMware training instead.

Our RIM contacts told us, that the currently targeted release date is 2009-03-31.
Let's see if they will keep up to it ...

Not being uncharitable but that is suspiciously close to 1st April.

We have a meeting with RIM next week. I will be sure to ask them and hopefully give another validation to the March time frame. Personally I would almost expect them to hold it until WES 2009 for the announcement/release.

If memory serves me correctly, EAP (Early Adopter Program) release 4 was released prior to WES. I believe Beta 1 was released in the August time frame. Beta 2 was recently released in October. Prior to the Beta phase, there was no web administration included, which is obviously the big feature of Argon. This functionality was added in Beta 1. In my personal opinion, it requires too many clicks to do a simple task, such as adding a user. I would recommend going into it with low expectations in order to avoid disappointment.

Also, on a single-server BES environment, expect an overhead of 250-500MB of memory for the web administration options (although I believe this should be able to be installed as a remote component). This is very similar to Web Desktop Manager with regards to being a memory hog (both are based on the BAS foundation).

According to what I've heard the Argon will go out in March 2009, probability 85%.

Web administration looks sexy - it would be nice to offload the self-administration to the users completely.

I've heard that Beta 3 will be out somewhere soon, looking for the testing of Beta 2 but don't know if they will give to me for sure :-/

Now in regards to BES 5.0 aka Argon.... is it just me or does the official definition of Argon bother other people too?
a colorless, odorless, chemically inactive, monatomic, gaseous element that, because of its inertness, is used for filling fluorescent and incandescent lamps and vacuum tubes.
So RIM is tell us that BES 5.0 is vaporware?
Computer Slang. a product, esp. software, that is promoted or marketed while it is still in development and that may never be produced.

As fun as WES was, I think I need training in other areas too. I only get to do it on company cash once a year.

But you may have a glimmer of hope though. My manager has flipped what I will be going to training for 3 times now. Went from VMware, to Citrix, now she is saying BES training, which could very well mean WES. You guys will be the first to know when I find out.

A March release of 5.0 seems really early to me. But you never know. I hope we get our Domino switched over to 8 before it is released.
